you leave your house at 6 am to get to work by 7 and you do not get there until 10:30!! OMG was it horrible!
Hope everyone else has a better day than driving in crappy weather. Hugs April |

Yes my normal commute is 45 minutes but for some oddball reason people decided with a new dusting of snow to drive a bit retardedly so it made the drive a standstill. The problem is the road I use to get to work most people also use to get in to NYC for work so it was bumper to bumper three lanes of traffic :-(
But I am here and safe and that is what counts :-) Hugs April |

Ok you can laugh but I plan to stock up and NEVER go out when it snows.. luckily I am moving where it snows but doesnt stay for more than a few days before you can drive safely. I would be the moron with the milk load in my cart (cant drink coffee without it). I live (for two more days only) in the Silicon Valley. I think you should immediately get back in the car so you can get home in time for bed.

Your bad day is the exact reason I took a personal day today. I too drive almost an hour on a good day and the traffic reports were saying how bad it was. So I'm home and sewing, which is a much, much better day!
|
No fair Donna! I wish I was home sewing-I have the ability to work from home....why didnt I???

Around here when some people hear we are to have ice, sleet, snow they run to the store to buy milk, eggs and bread. The radio people say those people are going to make french toast. Kind of a local joke around here.
|
Too funny Jingle. I know I buy milk because my daughter drinks a lot of it (1%) but I have a truck because I live in an area where the weather gets crappy so...if I truly need something i will venture out otherwise I stay home, throw a log on the fire and enjoy the weather being outside while I am in :-)
Hugs April |
I am glad that you made it safely to work!!!
Hopefully the drive home will be much better :D:D:D Here, it isn't the snow it is the sheets of ice covering the roads  Other places I do chuckle over when one inch of snow closes the whole area down. although I do understand that they are not used to it or equipped to drive on it  |
I buy Toilet paper. Hubby says it's an obsession. I stock up- a min. of 48 rolls in the house at all times. Especially for holidays when the stores are closed.
Someday they will thank me..... |
I (obviously)live in Minnesota where you would think people wouldn't freak out every time it snows. But NOOOOO, they still drive like idiots when there is more than a 1/2 inch of new white stuff. I love the fact that I work from home and the worst driving I do is the 1/4 mile drive to daycare. (I'd walk but she lives on a major road with no sidewalks there) I used to work near downtown Minneapolis and that was a horrid drive in bad weather. DH takes the bus into work and now has the option to take the train on bad weather days. The train has saved him over a 1/2 hour on the bus when weather gets bad!

Another reason to love the snow.

Well, I live in Virginia. Need I say more? Years ago then Mayor Marion Barry of Washington, D. C. said, when asked about snow removal after a particularly bad storm, "That spring is the best snow removal!" The firestorm that erupted after that comment was priceless.
The roads here are hilly and curvy, coupled with the fact that there is little budgeting for snow removal, you have the recipe for gridlock. My biggest fear in those years was being trapped for hours while driving on the Beltway. I stocked foods, water, blankets, batteries, kitty litter, and a small shovel in the trunk in the event I was stuck. The one thing I could never figure out was "how to rig up a portable toilet." |

That is funny. They probably don't know what it is. When we lived in DC an inch of snow would cause people to abandon their cars on the highway. We joked that they shared a snow plow between towns. |
When I first started reading that I thought maybe you found a quilt store on your way. That would have been a much better way to spend time being late.

I hate bad weather. We had rain and snow last week. The roads where good then the ice came. When is spring!

Hope everyone else has a better day than driving in crappy weather. Hugs April we got a light dusting of snow and everyone headed to the grocery store and stocked up for a month. funny. Catlady |
I'm glad to hear that you made it to work ok...although it took way too long. Been there done that. My job is 30 miles from home and in good weather I leave and hour before start time. That way if anything happens I have a little bit of extra time. Two years ago, I left home at 9 a.m., (my start time that day was noon) and I didn't get to work till 1 p.m.!!! Driving on I-80 in a snow/ice storm was crazy. Even the 18 wheelers were barely moving and there were sooo many vehicles in the ditches. I kept telling DH to please just take me home. He laughed and said that he would...later....after work. Glad that I didn't get into trouble or anything...going home in the dark that night was even worse. Please be careful...Wouldn't know what to do without our April here. :D Hugs......... :D Tigger :D

Have you ever heard of a thunder jug?! :-D |
Seriously, folks, I know that snow & ice can be a problem and I'm glad no one has written that they've been in an accident. As much as I joke about winter in New England, I know that what we get is sometimes just a fraction of what other parts of the country can experience.
Primarily, we get a smattering of everything and learned to be prepared, as much as we can be. However, when a storm is forecast, a lot of people react as if the sky were falling and only milk and bread can save the day! :-) |
I know what you mean. One time I left work earily because we were getting a fast moveing storm. I left at 12 And got home 7 1/2 hrs later I got home.

My son is in Richmond, VA. They just got 10-12 inches of snow. It is paralyzing down south. He parked his car at home and is walking everywhere. The problem is when it melts it overwhelms the streets. Up here in NH we had a heavy snow storm and as I was shoveling snow a young girl who went to high school walked to the bus stop. The bus came and picked her up. They slapped chains on it. Up here if you don't drive in snow, you stay inside for almost 6 months. Richmond and further south are not used to this at all. Ice storms are a whole different matter!

You might as well move to the greater Los Angeles area. Your commute would be about like that every day, but your feet would be warm and dry the whole time!
