You know you're tired when...

you walk into the men's room at work! Yep did it! Luckily I was the only one there.

bearisgray 10-09-2013 06:43 PM

Done that, too - but it was at a truck stop.

Those walls sure were decorated! And what were those urinals doing in there? I was in a stall with the door closed when I finally figured out that I wasn't where I had intended to be!

barny 10-09-2013 06:47 PM

Oh Bear, that is so funny. It's bedtime and I'm sitting here laughing at your story.

Raine54RN 10-09-2013 06:56 PM

I've done it too but I was a long time ago and I had ..ahem.. A little to much happy hour! Since I was a little mixed up it actually took me a while to figure out and by then I was finished. I DID Wash my hands I think. Yucky place!

miriam 10-10-2013 02:06 AM

I was 'holding' at work. Ran into the bathroom, used it and when I walked out there were men standing by the urinals... I sure did make a run for it to get out of there... Washed up in the woman's room.... :o

barri1 10-10-2013 02:58 AM

I did it at the Kansas city airport.. I noticed the urinals, and left really fast.

Julie in NM 10-10-2013 05:14 AM

Should we start a group...Sounds like we're a fun bunch!

nativetexan 10-10-2013 06:52 AM

Well drat!!!!:p

I had a very nice student assistant a few years ago from overseas. One day she came rushing back into the office very red faced. Seems she not only went into the mens room but used it as well and didn't realize her error until she was leaving and some guy walked in and gave her a funny look. She looked at the door saw the sign and the rest is history!

MaryMo 10-10-2013 07:24 AM

I can join this group .... was eating at a Japanese restaurant where they cook at the table. didn't want to miss any of the action so waited until end of meal but almost waited too long. The words on the doors were Japanese and I didn't take the time to be too observant. while doing my business, a couple of guys came in to do theirs. I just waited until they were finished before leaving the stall, then ran out of there as fast as I could brushing by a guy going in. continued running until I was completely outside and in the car. so very embarrassed. I've never been back to that restaurant to this day even though the food was outstanding.

Been there done that, and a co-worker WAS there!

nivosum 10-10-2013 09:05 AM

I think I did that once in Japan back when I was 17 years old. A man in the stall next to me and a woman cleaning the restrooms. Did not see any urinals, so I still not sure what the classification of that restroom was. When I saw the man's feet and later the actual man, I got out of there a quickly as I could.

missmay 10-10-2013 09:53 AM

Sometimes you have to go so badly that you will blindly open any restroom door. I've done that but was really lucky no men were at the urinals when I came out of the stall.

jbud2 10-10-2013 09:54 AM

I did it at our YMCA, when the women's locker room was closed for a short time and we were to use the rest rooms down the hall. There was even a male lifeguard standing outside talking to someone and I just barreled on it!!

Another restroom story - if you to Chimney Rock State Park in I think (South? North?) Carolina, and you go all the way to the top to see the views from the top of the Rock, check out the restrooms in the gift shop up there. It was beautifully painted in a scene of a forest, mountains, with animals, creeks, - very pretty. I washed my hands and turned around to where I thought exit door was. it was all painted, too. By looking for door closing mechanism at the top of the door, I found it and made my way out. I was told the men's room was painted the same way.

The gender signs are too high for short people.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

mrs. fitz 10-10-2013 03:22 PM

I did it about 40 years ago on a cross-country bus trip. We made a late night stop at a terminal somewhere out west and I thought I was awake......

tessagin 10-10-2013 03:31 PM

you know you're tired when you go to a house you haven't lived in for a couple years but have been talking about it most of the day, walk in then run like crazy out the door as soon as you realize what you've done and hope no one saw you. The cars were parked in the garage. It was only a couple blocks away, same color and style but when I opened the fridge and saw tofu in there, I ran. Luckily, the others were upstairs. EMBARRASSSSSSEEEEDDD!!!!!

aronel 10-10-2013 03:36 PM

I've done it twice - at the same Goodwill, 2 years apart. I shouldn't be turned loose to look for sewing related items, when I am tired!! I used to be a custodian - you would have thought that I would have noticed the urinals, didn't take time to look, old and in a hurry!! LOL!!!

mdall 10-10-2013 03:44 PM

I have done it also, but most I do it on purpose. If there is a line and I cant wait I have Dh or one of my boys go in, check things out to make sure its empty and then I just go in and have them wait at the door to inform others. When you have to go you have to go.

Having lived in Asia for some 10 years I can tell you that seperate bathrooms are a new thing. On one of my first venture out into the countryside I ran (w/dignity, of course) to the rest room and there was a man urinating, with his back to me and a door ajar on his left. I walked right behind him and into the cubical and did my business (squating) and left w/o any problem. Perhaps being raised in the country helped me accept it all. But most people don't make such a big deal of human needs as we American do. When traveiing with a group (or even to a local concert at a college) the menfolk have told us when it's empty and kept the other men out while we ladies used both. They give you a 15-20 break and provide equal sized faciities for both sexes! Get real!!!

great bathrooms!!!

mighty 10-10-2013 04:32 PM

I did that at the airport in Arizona . OOPS!!!!!!

irishrose 10-10-2013 05:53 PM

I had the opposite happen. I was washing my hands in the LADIES room in a House of Flavors when a man walked in. I left quickly making sure to check the door on the way out to make sure I was in the right room.

jitkaau 10-11-2013 04:27 AM

In many countries throughout the World the toilets are not segregated. One soon gets used to walking past the urinals, manned or unmanned, and going to the cubicle. I'm just grateful when it is clean. It was not the Asian countries that I found housed the dirtiest loos.

Stitchit123 10-11-2013 06:16 AM

I have done this a few times I finally quit getting embarrassed by it.. I now figure I gotta go and the first door is the right one - I would really be embarrassed if I did not make a rest room.

jbj137 10-11-2013 06:21 AM

Been there, done that.

oldtnquiltinglady 10-11-2013 07:01 AM

This DH of mine tells a funny story about public bathrooms during our family get-togethers when we're sharing embarrassing moments from our young and wild days in Texas...he was hurrying to the bathroom because of "too much beer in one evening" and ran into the bathroom with no line at the door---wrong---and when he realized he was in the "ladies" there was no door handle on the back-side of the door---he nearly clawed a hole in the door trying to get out......keeps all our kids laughing every time he tells that one.

canuckninepatch 10-11-2013 08:58 AM

The same thing happened to me at a wedding. I had had a couple of glasses of wine (that's all it takes for me!) and had to go to the little girls room. Only problem was that it was the little boys room. There was one guy standing at urinal so I beat it out of there as
quick as can be!

Jingle 10-11-2013 12:54 PM

Luckily for me, I have never done that. I travel overseas nor go to places that don't speak English or have English signs.

Dolphyngyrl 10-11-2013 02:49 PM

I can beat that. I work at an animal shelter and I scanned an opossum the other day for a microchip. The officer was laughing his ads off at me. I was so weak from being sick I couldn't even think straight

sassey 10-11-2013 06:15 PM

I ave done tat a few times myself. One time I was rushing to the rest room their was a man right behind me I turned around and asked him why he was following me into the rest room he smiled and pointed to the sign that said men Now I was embrassed. I have found a man in the womens room but it didn't appear to be an accident as he was just standing looking around

cricket_iscute 10-11-2013 07:54 PM

I was at a dinner with executives and VIPs in my company and I was one of a handful of women; we were in a large private area of a restaurant. My colleague and I were talking, and he wanted to continue the conversation even though I wanted to go to the bathroom. He walked me over and opened the door for me -- but it was the men's room! i took one step and backed out; fortunately, it was empty. He claims he didn't notice it was not the ladies' room. We laughed about that for a long time.

cricket_iscute 10-11-2013 08:07 PM

And then there are those times you just don't know what to think. I worked for a closeted transgender person, born male but, with a muscular football physique and deep voice, claiming to be female and making it known she had a romantic partner who was female. Several times, she came into the multi-stall women's room when I was there. I was not comfortable, but I didn't let my discomfort show and left as soon as possible. Other women, however, would leave as soon as she showed up or go quite a distance to use another restroom.

Sewhappygal 10-15-2013 01:36 PM

I walked into one once and a man in there just looked at me. I said "you're in the right place aren't you?" He smiled and said yes. I high tailed it out of there only to find my husband and son standing outside the door just laughing.

ILoveToQuilt 10-20-2013 05:01 PM

You know you're tired when...you keep reading the same sentence over and over.

Re: using the wrong bathroom...I used to be a Cub Scout leader and when we went on field trips, I used to take the boys into the mens room on purpose (I'd never let the boys go alone...too much temptation for them to get in trouble!). I'd stand in the doorway and yell "Woman incoming!" I've never cleared a room so quickly! LOL
