No, I am glad that we are finally trying to do something to save energy in the US.

Saving energy at the expense of releasing toxic fumes into the environment? Okay. Not to mention the toxic effects of big government.

As for ceiling fans, ours use candelabra base incandescents. I'm hoping that they make led ones if the incandescent become obsolete. I'll use a lantern before I buy fluorescent. I'm even thinking about ditching my ott lite and craft light, both of which I believe are fluorescent. No wonder I get headaches when I'm sewing/crafting.

We switched over a few years ago and haven't had to replace but maybe one of them out of the 15 or so we have in use. They do take a few minutes to "warm up" and put out the maximum light. I used to hate changing light bulbs in ceiling fixtures cause I am so short and it's getting harder to climb on a chair to reach.

I like using the older lightbulbs for making painting on and making Christmas ornaments out of them. I may have to take a trip and buy a couple of boxes to keep on hand for just that purpose. Thanks for the heads up!

I have started to get rid of the CFL lights as I didn't like the light and just found a whole new line of LED lights in "Daylight" mode. According to Consumer Reports these are better as they are cooler and the light is wonderful for all my "cam" lights & my sewing lights as it is brighter. I took Consumer Reports information and found the LEDs at Walmart's Great Value brand were a lot less and came in bulbs that look very much like the old standard bulbs. This really works well especially when I am working on my HQ16 sit down machine. Take a look at these as they last longer and we have now replaced all the outside spot lights with them. Well worth it when you have a four story house and have to call someone with a special ladder to change the lights when they go out. I accidentally broke a CFL-curly bulb while sewing and the glass was really a mess plus it is recommended you open the windows & air out the room for 30 minutes after breakage due to the mercury. Try getting that out of your project! They are not worth it. I will save my money & invest in the new LEDs!

I have alot of the 60W and will be buying more. I work directly under fluorescent lights. I never get headaches. I absolutely refuse to get the cfls. I don't care to save money, can't be that much. I sew under florescent lights and that is what it takes for me to see good.

LEDs have all the standard bases out these days. I've got the silly candelabra base lights and they have LEDs in.

Snopes is just another website. 20/20 did a news show about them. It is a man and woman who decide what they think is rumor or not. Their answers are just opinions backed with info found online. They admitted their answers are not meant to be taken as fact.

I live in Ohio, so it's cold part of the year and I just asked my husband if he noticed the same thing I did. The swirly bulbs, when used in an outdoors fixture, take quite a bit longer to reach their full light potential. He's going to the store today, so we both agreed he should pick up a stash of the old type

We didn't know about using it for 30 min the first time, will do that now too

The problem I have with the swirly bulbs is the time it takes them to come on and give a good light. I could walk into the toilet before I see it. They suck.i want instant light not stand and wait.
