Mites,have vet take a scraping to check for mites.Sometimes left over shampoo can make a dog itch.I worked for a vet awhile back

I use Clorhexadrine shampoo on my Yorkie when he gets itchy. The vet told me that it was the best thing for the dry, flaky skin that Yorkies are prone to. The only catch is that he hates baths and you have to leave the shampoo on them for 5 minutes before rinsing it off. I have to hold him in the tub while hubby watches the clock! Seriously, it really does work well

I had a Aussie that was allergic to certain types of food. Most dog food if you look at the label start with corn as the first ingredient, my vet told me that was not good... Should start with some type of meat. He advised us to take him off of dog food and start adding foods back to see if that would help it did. some dogs are allergic to grass. my daughter's Boston terrier had to take steroids to stop the itching

Our Yorkie had this problem. The vet looked at the red spots and said that Beau is sensitive to flea bites. After starting him on Trifexis and switching to a non soap dog shampoo the problem stopped. The shampoo is not available at big discount stores so we buy it at a local pet store. Problem solved. My friends dog was itching because the food she fed Lucy had too much protien in the formula. She switch food and problem solved.

My daughters dog recently had dry itchy skin and fly bites. She used Gold Bond lotion and it worked perfect. Cohen loved having it rubbed on.

Our sheba -inau dog as allergies. Our vet put him on one a day Zrtec. Even with his flea stuff he was itchy.

My daughters dog and mine both started itching around the same time. Every year this happens, we contributed it to allergy. I give the dogs children allergy med., and it helps a lot. (I asked vet first).

A little baby oil mixed with a lot of water in a squirt bottle can be sprayed generously on a dog's coat and rubbed into the skin to help with dry skin and shedding. I can't remember the proportions, but if the water feels greasy, you've got too much baby oil. Also, I've discovered a "Furminator" that is used to brush dogs.....really gets that undercoat pulled up. Maybe with warmer weather, the itching has something to do with the coat too. The Furminator is crazy-expensive, but worth every single penny! My dog loves it and this household will never be without one again.

I have used Dawn dish soap to help with fleas and it works BUT it needs to be rinsed really good. Then use an oatmeal shampoo for dogs. Often they may have allergies that the vet needs to check for. If you use perfumes that will affect your pets. Especially, room deodorizers will make pets itch. If you use a spray perfume and your pet is in the room it can get on your pet (because of the heavy oil) and work it's way to the skin. Certain flea/tick meds will make them itch also. May also be something in their foods.
