However, the point it makes is timeless!

Interesting. For a quilter it is rare that you get what you are worth in time.

Sadly, there's not a lot of appreciation for fine hand work anymore and not just in the needle arts.

I never sell my quilts. I give them to family and close friends. A couple of years ago, a friend ask me what I would sell one of my queen size quilts for. Considering I use LQS fabric and I hand quilt, I told her $600-$800. She wasn't interested. Unless a person does serious crafting, he/she has no clue what goes into hand made articles. A few years ago, I made two beautiful baby bonnets and matching bibs for a baby shower gift. The mother-to-be said something like…oh, they are nice. I spent hours on them. From shopping for the fabrics, patterns, etc. and sewing them, I said never again unless it’s for family.

Year ago I took a quilting class from Kaye Woods and she said if the recipient of the quilt doesn't sew or quilt just buy a pre printed panel and quilt it. Save your effort for those people who know and appreciate the amount of time and money goes into making a quilt. I only make quilts for my family and that keeps me busy with baby, graduation, and marriage quilts. I have 39 members in my family with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I'm finding the comments quite interesting ...... meaning that when I posted this, I had never even thought of it from a quilter's perspective. It certainly has relevance.

Rather, I was thinking of the bigger picture .... our individual value in life determined by what we did in life (way beyond our quilting lives).

I always ask how much money you make for an 8 hour day. Then, by the way, bring all of your own tools, materials and pay for the light bill and building. Now, how much are you worth. That is not including the schooling and hours it took you to learn your skills, the books and classes. Right? Now, my hubby always tells the buyer at a charity auction that I am an award winning quilter. So, how much does that increase the value?
