Collage using paper, fabric, etc.
Is there anyone on here who does collage?
I don't plan on using photos, just paper, fabrics, bits and pieces of string, lace, etc., anything that makes it cute.
This is just for me - not to sell or give as gifts.
What do you use as the background? Wood? Canvas? Paper - what kind?
And what kind of glue is best for this?
Suggestions?
Any web sites? I couldn't find much.

Uhu glue is the best I've found for paper and adhering other things to it...it help up to gluing a penny on index weight paper for second graders. Any other glue? The penny popped off. This was in the days before E6000. I don't know if E6000 is for paper with other items...it does great for glass to ceramic and that sort of thing. I'm attaching a picture of the UHU...I used the one near the top of the picture that is listed at $3.99. Dunno about the Uhu glue sticks. Hope this helps!

Look at the book "Serendipity Quilts" by Susan Carlson. She does fabric collage with scraps using photographs. Her work is quite impressive and she uses a simple and short list of supplies including Aileen's Tacky Glue. I bought my book on Amazon and have started a collage based on a stained glass window photograph. So far, my efforts are producing pleasing results and colorful dolphins.

I neglected to add that my base is muslin. I sketched my design onto the muslin and indicated what colors should go where, creating a paint-by-number effect. My scraps are trimmed to fit the design on the muslin and glued in place. Just looking at the book cover tells it all in a variety of batiks, same color family.
