That is so funny, but a worry too I imagine. Our experience wasn"t quite that adventureous, but we had a raccoon go down our chimney, thankfully it didn't get in the house, the damper was closed. The "pro" came out, put a cage on top and trapped it, then we spent$$$ putting a wire chimney topper on . The funniest time was when we were trying to catch a mouse, lots of action with that one!

Yes, this was what I was going to suggest. Or at least some sort of hardware cloth teepee till you could get some really experienced person up there to do it.
