Go to the stores and try out various sergers. I have a Bernina and love it. It also came with free guide classes to teach me how to use it.

You might get lucky and find a gently used machine with a warranty at a good price.

This is also my suggestion. If you go to a good store they'll have classes and help you thru any rough spots. We all have our favorite machines rather it be sewing, emb or sergers but you have to find one that works for you and believe it or not most will tell you that having a store that has great customer service is just as important as finding the right store for "you". good luck on your search

I have a Bernina 1150 and love it. Bought it from a local dealer and got free lessons with it. Also, I can retake the classes anytime for free.

Craftsy also has a serger class that is really good.
