I started working on a cross stitch Christmas stocking and stuck in in my craft bag to take with me to work and appointments and such. I went to take out some other stuff and looked at it and a bag of skittles melted inside my bag on to the stocking. Any idea on how to get the candy off the stitching material without upsetting the work in progress?

Bummer! Sorry I don't have any idea. Guess I will make sure to never carry anything else in my craft bag!

How about putting it in the freezer ..... then once frozen maybe it would pick off?? The color from the skittles might stay behind - but hopefully you can address than by hand washing the piece when it's done. Good Luck....sorry it happened !!!

After the freezer to pick off large bits, try soaking in Dawn detergent. It should take out the oils from the chocolate. Or maybe Simple Green...I use that a lot for protein stains.

I agree with the freezer idea..but just leave the residue until your project is finished, then soak overnight in oxyclean...you should be ok.

You never said if it was counted cross stitch or transfer pattern cross stitch - if it is counted cross stitch I would say you could wash it, VERY GENTLY, and with the transfer pattern cross stitch, yes, freeze it, pick off what you can and continue sewing until it is done, put it all together and then wash it. I am working on a transfer pattern cross stitch Christmas quilt - have been for about four or five years now - billions of little cross stitches - and it is as dirty as sin. I am not washing it until it is done, put together, hand quilted, binding on and totally finished. Then I will wash it - in about 50 years. Good luck to you. It'll all come out in the wash. Edie

Try Grandmas stain remover. Wash it by soaking it. Good Luck..
