I occasionally get these emails from these picture sites and they say so and so wants to connect with you. I deleted one from Fanbox last night and another one with the same person's name came in a few mins ago. I assume they are scam but wondered if anyone has a good experience with these sites. I opened one of a differant site and got my email hijacked a long time ago.

I'm not about to open this one unless that person approaches me in a way I know is safe. So if you want me to see pics of your quilts that you put on a picture site please let me know on here instead.

Sometimes people will tell me they will send me pics when they get the quilt done and I really don't want to ignore anyone but I also don't want to take chances on a virus.

Any thoughts on these picture sites?

I don't open any emails from strangers...it's so easy to get hacked by doing that.

My own mother forwards me all kinds of crap that her friends send to her...I tell her I'm not going to open them, but she still sends them.

If I don't know the person or the company, I don't open any emails from them.

I have gotten mails from lonely wives in my neighborhood wanting to connect. (no thanks) Then there is the "Somebody has found you (hm, wasn't lost). And of course the ever-vigilant relative in Africa who wants to share the inheritance if I only send him the fee to release the funds.

SPAM! SPAM! SPAM! Delete all!

I recognize those as spam but my "problem" if you will is the ones that I get showing me pictures and the name attached is a board member but the site is one like Chele sends the DQ pics on Flicker isn't it? So my question really I quess is what picture sites are reliable? I don't mind connecting with board members if I am sure their name hasn't been hijacked and used as spam. I get emails from things using peoples names I recognize but if it isn't a personal email I don't open it.

But what if you know the name but not the site? If you saw an email that said Rhonda Woodsmall wants to share some photos with you on Fanbox Would you check it out or delete? Would you contact that person another way to find out if it was real?

I'm not talking about emails I know are scam I am talking about honest to goodness sites that are a place for people to post their pictures to show their friends.

How do you determine if the one you get is a scam or a real site that people can show you their pictures?

well for one thing, hover your mouse over the link that you are supposed to click on, say it is www.fanbox.com.
now look in the lower left corner of your screen and it will show you where the link will direct you to. If they match up you are probably OK. But if the one in the lower left says something else, for instance a site ending in .ru (Russia) you will know it is fake. and look out if it says something that just has the name of the site worked into it someway, like www.fanbox.scamsite.com
