Default So Sad

I have a Bernina 180sewing/embroidery, with software and over 76000 embroidery designs. No that I had to have my computer updated to Windows 7 I can't use any of my software, nor embroidery machine nor can I put the designs in my machine. I also have a BabyLock "Emore" and can't transfer designs. I was told that there is nothing that can be done. Does anyone know another answer besides buying a new machine. This is really got me upset. I have backups on CD's and USB's by I can't put them on computer. Hope someone can help. Please send me messages by PM
Thanks

Just wait til you have to use Windows 8!

Unfortunately, our older technologies are now like the old-timey farmhouse crank phone on the wall compared to the last of the basic cell phones.

Then when we have to move to the newest iPhone or Samsung Galaxy, it can be major heartache and confusion!
Just ask your 7 year old grandchild to help you, see how that makes you feel!

What a nightmare! I am computer challenged but wonder if you can find an older lap top to run your machines with?

Was the old computer running XP? XP is an operating system.

My dh is a computer whiz, and he has his Windows 8 computer sectioned so that he can switch among operating systems -- including XP. He just logs on to whichever operating system he wants. However, it's not easy to set up a computer to do this. Possibly the Geek Squad at Best Buy could do it for you -- for a price. What might be better is to simply look on Craigslist and other places to see if you can buy an older working computer that still has XP on it.

In other words, you may not be able to change your software (the designs you have). However, you may still be able to buy a laptop that runs the operating system you need for your designs. You could dedicate that computer to your embroidery.

Edit: I just did a search on eBay and there are some working laptops there with XP on them. Check "completed listings" to get a good idea of price. I would look for something in the neighborhood of $100 or so.

I had to do get a separate computer for my embroidery machine. I have a MAC and my husband has an HP. My machine is a Viking Topaz and the program to use the MAC was in excess of $2,000.00! So I bought an HP lap top, it gets used for my Topaz, and my daughter borrows it from time to time for her work that is not MAC friendly.

A friend of mine has a grandson that works for a firm that repairs computers - maybe if you talk with an independent repair firm they can hook you up like Prism99's husband has done.

If you get Office PRO you can have the XP on it too....like Prism99 was talking about. It is called an auxiliary drive I think. Getting an older laptop with XP works too.

I don't know if this applies to your Bernina:

I'm right there with you, my software for my Husqvarna embroidery machine met the same fate. I did as others have suggested and went on ebay and bought a cheap computer with XP.

indeed there is something that can be done, and the cheapest route is a used laptop with XP installed. Your software will run in 7 & 8 OS if you have 32bit processor. However the newer computers most all have 64 bit, which is not compatible with the older embroidery softwares. If you have Mac Pro with bootcamp, Win7 Ultimate or Professional...you can partition and install XP in virtual mode...only for emb use-- not to go on line. Tech fee, buying the XP software, etc....that's why you would be better off buying used XP computer. Just use it for your software, not for browsing. Can you see light now? I have - ta da! - 4 XP laptops simply for this very reason...back up for my embroidery. I will not spend thousands for NEW programs. Keep hoping there will be enough protest that Microsoft, or the software makers will eventually create a ' patch' that allows us to use our expensive programs. Off my soapbox now!

The only answer is like I am doing. I have an older computer that I just use for my embroidery. For all other "computing" I use a new laptop which I keep updated.
