Since my old toaster/wafflemaker bit the dust, I make grill cheese sandwiches in a cast iron skillet. Works great!

For grilled cheese, you can always do the college cooking thing. Butter your bread on the outside, cheese on the inside, wrap in aluminium foil and iron the package until the bread is toaster.
