Thanks so much Blue for sharing the pics.....your country is beautiful! I've always heard that but haven't done much checking up on it. I sure would love love love to visit it someday! Looks like ya'll had a fabulous day, the kids are really smiling anyway..so its all good!

How far are you actually from the coast? I loved those 2 pics...

Very beautiful, BC! I was in NZ three times back in the 1990s on business and absolutely loved it. One of those times I got to take my wife and daughters (who were 1 and 6 at the time) with me, and we stayed a month. It's one of the best memories we have as a family. We stayed in Wellington and got a rental car on the weekends and drove around, it was so much fun.

Blue - I had the great pleasure of visiting your beautiful country 2 years ago and I fell in love with it. Thanks for sharing these photos of a place I didn't get to. What is the temp like at this time of year? I would guess it's fairly mild. I was there in Jan/Feb. & it was gorgeous - not too hot and not too cool. If you weren't so darn far from me, I'd visit more often!

For my Aussie friends - visited your amazing, awesome country on that trip as well and fell in love with it also! Incredible differences from one area to another.

I'll try and answer all the questions......

We're just heading into summer, so everything is still very green. But the native bush is always green, it never dries out, so even in the middle of the hottest summer it's beautiful and lush.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Maybe it's the semi-celtic look about it that appeals, especially the church with the vines. It would have to be bias tape. Even hubby has said it would make an awesome quilt. The bug is rubbing off! lol


mumtoliam: we're in the North Island. Both are beautiful, but in different ways. The north is more lush, with more bush areas, but it also has a lot more towns and cities. The South Island is more barren, with the cool mountain ranges and a lot less towns. The people are friendly everywhere, but the South Island is just a little bit more so than the north. :-)


It's a little decieving in the picture. The buildings you can see are the town centre, we actually live 5 minutes walk from the coast and the houses go right up to the edge of the beach. If you use google earth you can see it better.



Eddie: We're an hour's drive north of Wellington! :-)


Redquilter: We're just heading into summer, so it's warming up. It's been t-shirts and shorts weather all week, and I get up this morning to rain and cold! LOL We just can't win.

Not to mention they have a town named after me! Geraldine! Imagine my excitement to discover that! It's not a common name and to find a WHOLE town with that name was fun. (OK - so it's a small town - but hey! How many others can say they have a town named after them? OK -so perhaps it wasn't named after me - but why burst my bubble?)

And just for the record - I found no difference in the friendliness of the people. They were all wonderful.
