My husband and I are thinking of moving to South Carolina. If you live or have lived there, please tell me some pros and cons. Thanks in advance.

the one thing that really frustrated me was the lack of shoulders on the roads. Why? my vision is not 100% and i didn't know my way around. i found it hard to pull over to read a map :) if you missed your turn, it was hard to get there without backtracking.

Well, I've lived here in York, SC for five years. York is on the N.C. border just twenty minutes from Charlotte. The biggest pro would be the weather, and the abundance of sunshine. We moved here from N.H. and never realized how gloomy the weather is there until we left it behind. Second to weather, would be the cost of living, which is one of the main reasons we moved here. There are many beautiful parts of the state, I would suggest a vacation where you can visit the Ocean, lake regions, cities, before deciding where to live. I wish we had done that, we just made our choice by viewing our computer, its just not the same. Theres not that much to do with my children where we live now, but we did choose one of the best school systems in the state, (Clover), so I don't know if our choice would have ended up being different since that was so big on our list. Unemployment is also very high in the state. Feel free to private message me if you have any specific questions, and I can try to help.

Hi, Im in Columbia, been here all my life so I dont have the luxury to compare SC with other areas, but for me, I love it here. I'm within 3 hours of the coast and 3 hours of the mountains. Lake Murray and Wateree are within 20-30 minutes of my home. I can do day trips to Atlanta, Charleston or Charlotte if I want to get away for shopping or sight seeing. I will say that the humidity is probably my biggest complaint in terms of weather. Summers can get a little hot every now and then. Winters are mild and we jump for joy if we get a dusting of snow as its very rare that we get any snow at all. Hi from Myrtle beach area, the weather is the best part of living in sc. If you play golf the beac area is the best place to be. I don't play but my husband does. We lived in Anderson for 23 years and moved to the beach 2 yrs ago. I don't like all the traffic in the summer in the tourist area but easily avoidable. It is such a friendly place to be. Born and raised in western NY and lived there till 1986 when we moved south. Don't miss the snow as it does snow a little here, love to watch it come down and a few hrs later it is gone.........that i do love.

I lived in/around Timmonsville, SC for 20 years, from 1980 to 2000. I loved it, but..... being from Tennessee and a different climate/humidity it was really hard to get used to. In fact, I never did get used to the heat completely. In the summer I would run from air conditioner to air conditioner, in the house, car and work. It's really hot and humid in the summer (we were 80 miles inland from Myrtle Beach) and the winters are usually mild. I threatened to decorate a palmetto tree for Christmas it was so warm one winter. I kept thinking I would get acclimated to the temps, but at 5 years - nope. 10 years - nope. 15, 20 years - guess it's not gonna happen. I divorced in 2000 and came back to my home - Nashville and was much more comfortable there. I'm not saying you won't love South Carolina, just be aware you may have some issues with the heat being from even more north than I was.
