when i first started quilting I got lots of request for alterations, shortening curtains, and all kinds of repairs. I felt so bad saying no I don't know how to do those things. Non quilting people just don't get it.

When I started organizing my sewing room, found several piles of mending, hemmimg and repairing that had been in there for quite awhile (I remember putting some of it there myself.) Did get it done but did tell DH and DDs that I don't mend but maybe once a year if they're lucky so my mending for 2010 is over. Somewhere I still have a bottom sheet to finish fixing but it's for my bed so it has a good chance of actually getting worked on BUT not in the near future. :)

Without a free arm on the Janome, wasn't it hard to hem? I "messed" up on a pair of pants for my husband and now he takes them to an alteration shop on base. I will do his patches because I do a better job than most alteration places, but hems are a no-no.

I too have a mending pile mounting. With young kids, by the time I get around to fixing their clothes, they have outgrown them, but at least I feel good that I had the right intentions. :-)

Whoops! I guess i'm in for it. I started with clothing construction, and am one of the few in town who do it professionally. No wonder I get so few of my quilting projects finished

Yeah I pointed out it wasn't a free arm which I had to explain but he said "just do your best!" It actually was easy but I'm not telling.
