I work as a psychologist in family court and see the parents in cases like these...I almost didn't read the thread as it is so depressing. I like to come here (and quilt) to escape--or as I often phrase it, to stay sane

Well I used hot sauce on my kids. One more than the other 2 because the other 2 got it quite quickly......the oldest, he's a slow learner still is at age 20 (almost 21) but he was not gonna smart mouth me, lie to me or do any other offense with his mouth towards me. I would not use soap - that is dangerous but hot sauce, hot sauce is made to go in the mouth and a tad bit of it on the tip of a tongue is not going to hurt a child. What's wrong with kids today is parents are not allowed to discipline without out threat of CPS or the police being called. I'm not talking child abuse. My kids know that wasn't abusive and they learned AND guess what after a time or two all I had to do was to threaten to get the hot sauce and their mouths and attitudes were straightened up right quickly.

I'm sure you all raised perfect kids that never talked backed or lied to you at some point? Good for you if that's the case!
