I am distant cousin to Ulysses S Grant. We are both descended from Thomas Minor who came over on the Mayflower (I think).

Golly, I am overwhelmed by all the famous ancestors. I have no one like that, but a great grandfather was one of the last living Civil War veterans. Does that count?

My great grandfather was born in California of English descent. He had blue eyes and blond hair. He was a sailor. He travelled to the southern east part of Mexico and met my great grandmother, a Mexican seņorita, with whom he married. They had seven boys, one of whom is the father of my father. There are tons of his descendants born in Mexico that have his English last name.

Some of us have come to live in the USA, but we had to apply first for residency and later for citizenship.

On the side of my mom, one of his brothers was the lover of a butcher's wife. When the butcher got word of it, he got mad. He and his brother attacked my uncle with butcher's knives. He recovered from the attack, but suffered all his life from panic attacks. If he heard someone shouting, he would get out of his mind. He was the oldest brother and my mother was #13. When i was a child i always had to watch my step in front of that uncle and speak in whispers.

Nothing too exciting in my family, except my paternal grandmother had 13 kids...the set of twins died as babies
