When my son got married we changed our Thanksgiving tradition. The five of us get together at our house for breakfast. That way married son and wife are free to go to her family's house for the turkey...guilt free! Unmarried son comes over for dinner late afternoon. We've been doing this for the past 5 years and EVERYONE LOVES IT!!!

We are planning on doing how we always have. Everyone is fine, no major health issues and the holidays have always been just our kids, their spouses and our grands. I see the grands several time a week and sleepovers on the weekends. The virus hasn't changed our family life.

We'll be zoom visiting with friends. No in person Thanksgiving with family for us this year. DH has interstitial lung disease and is 74 so very high risk if he gets it.

We're doing Thanksgiving at home with our older child home from college. It'll be ok I guess. We usually travel for Thanksgiving so I'm pretty devastated, I have family across the country in pretty much perpetual lockdown that I may never see again, I try not to think about them otherwise I just start crying again and I can't do that.

Well I’m not cooking turkey this year!

I just had the conversation with DH tonight. Dinner will be a crown pork roast with rice and gravy plus the sides. Last year after all the cooking and clean up with the turkey dinner both son and DH said they weren’t that fond of turkey. Now you tell me after 35 years?

I hear ya, Austine. I'm the only one who can eat turkey for a week so for the past several years we buy a pork tenderloin. Not as much meat. Still do the sides. Buy a pumpkin cheesecake and call it done. Older I get the lazier I get when it comes to cooking. (Is that why DH cooks?)

Our Thanksgiving is today and my grandkids have been in school, public health is begging people to restrict their gathering to their own household and I'm a senior. it all adds up to just me and my youngest DD making and having the dinner ourselves. She doesn't live with me but we see each other every week - and both take precautions when out in public (She works in retail and just works, eats and sleeps so needs to "get away" from her apartment) I can live with that level of exposure.
Anyway we'll do ham and scalloped potatoes, veggies and something simple for dessert and Facetime with the rest of the family. My kids are hilarious so it will be fun!

Last year, I bought 3 filet mignons for DH, son and me. We had a smaller, quieter dinner and really loved it. This year it will be the 3 of us again due to the pandemic, and that is going to be our new tradition. No more large groups here! Too much work and commotion.

When we got married 45 years ago, I was 18, we moved a thousand miles away from family so my husband could go to school. We couldn't afford to go home, so I decided I was still going to make Thanksgiving special even though it was just the two of us -- Turkey and the works! I grew up in very large family and we always had huge turkeys. I didn't even think about it when I purchased a 22 lb. turkey. It's a funny story now, but at the time we got very tired of turkey left-overs.

This year my husband and I are high risk, so we will probably do a zoom call and I'll do everything I can to make a special dinner for the two of us.
