Can I transfer thread from a spool to a cone?

I think it would be difficult because thread is put on cones in a cross wind manner. Any attempt to put it on is going to slip up the taper on the cone.
If your thread is not feeding if a spool correctly to your machine, try putting it loose in a cup beside the machine and add another thread guide. A paper clip taped to the machine will work for a thread guide.

I would be interested to know why you would want to do this.

You could do it the other way and it might work but cones are not wound the same way as spools.

I have some beautiful thread I want to use to add a rolled edge to some napkins, but the spools are not staying secure when I start stitching, and I thought re-spooling them would help, just a thought, maybe not a good one.

I saw a tut somewhere...a woman took a bobbin and hot glued it to the bottom of the spool she wanted to wind onto...then just used the bobbin winder to transfer the thread. Looked like it worked well.

where are you putting the spools when trying to use them?? they need to be vertical. usually put on a thread stand behind the machine or in a glass jar.

Agree ... explore different places to put the spool to keep it secure. You can do a search here on QB - there are some very imaginative ways to place spools so they "behave"!!

Also, do you have a spool cap? Perhaps that will help?

If you're using a sewing machine, using a separate thread guide should do the trick. This is the one I absolutely *LOVE*: http://www.superiorthreads.com/shop/...thread-holder/
