I'm new here and I was just wondering why, in the main forum, there are often replies to topics that were posted years ago? Any ideas?

Also, it's worth mentioning that if you have any quilting type questions or are looking for examples of a particular pattern, a sewing technique, product reviews, etc.. that you search your topic in the forum (upper right corner) and I promise you'll be amazed how much quilting wisdom and guidance is available. Many times I have searched quilting topics off this site but on, say, Google or Bing and the results were links to this Quilting Board and posts that might be recent or often times very, very old. Lots of good info here - glad you've joined in!

Also, I think there are a lot of people who don’t look at the date of the post.

If someone asks a question or comments on a post from years ago, it moves it back up. I usually look at the dates of posts but I don’t mind seeing older ones especially if they are pictures.

I am one of those. When looking at post I am always amazed at the information. The wealth is timeless.

Yes, but some of the topics that I see are way past their prime. Not everything, even in quilting, stands the test of time. I think the answer to my question is some people have googled something and found this site and don't realize they're replying to years old topics.

PurplePansies ... Welcome to the QB. It can be a bit confusing.
As Tartan already mentioned, when someone posts to any thread,
current or years old, it bumps it to the top of the "New Posts" list.

When you look at a thread, each of the posts are dated.
With those dates you can make your decision as to the relevance and timeliness of the comments to yourself.

Each person chooses if they want to comment on a post/thread. There are no time limits or expiration dates on the QB. Thus, why you are sometimes seeing old threads.

However, by starting here ...
Quiltingboard Forums
... you can look at just the new threads, rather than all new "posts" to any "threads" regardless of when they are started.

Once you post to a thread, you can get updates automatically sent to you, so that you see all new posts to that thread. Check your settings for this.

All of the reasons above plus no one goes back and deletes or archives old posts. Before the admins jump on me, I'm not saying they should be doing it, just that it is the way this board works. I started a thread years ago about rehabbing a Singer 401 and sometimes I refer people back to it if they are in the same situation.
