Hello all... I'm cleaning out DH's closet and have "discovered" several old sweaters that need to be removed, or repurposed. He has a bad habit of buying his clothes too big and these are big! I'll take them to the Mission House store if you crafty-types can't tell me how to reuse them. I've read about "felting" wool sweaters, but not what to do with heavy cotton sweaters. Help, anyone???

Well i've seen some great pillows made from the centers of sweaters, with buttons going down the front. very cute.

If you look, there are patterns out there for making mittens out of old sweaters. They look real cool if you have the notion to do something like that.

I think the mittens are made out of felted wool sweaters; cotton won't be warm enough. I would give the sweaters away so they get to someone who can use them. The pillows sound like a good idea; I just wouldn't want to spend the time trying to make sweaters work for that purpose.

thrift stores and the like are usually short on men's clothes - I bet they would be appreciated "as is".

Yes... ladies I agree... I'd already decided to take them...just wanted to see if there was anything to repurpose these sweaters. The more I looked at them, the more I couldn't bear the thought of cutting into one of them... so, off to the thrift store I go!!

My granddaughter makes up cycled elf coats, wrist warmers, and hooded sweaters and sells on Etsy. She is so artistic and clever.

You can take sweaters in that are too large with your sewing machine. Just go over the same seam three times, and cut with scissors. I've done this for years. Never had one unravel.
