We had one of those trees when I was still living at home. It was 7 ft tall and silver. Dad liked red glass ornaments on it.

We can't have a real tree in the house due to my allergies.

We have a very large growing tree in a huge plastic pot (sounds a bit awful but I made a simple tree skirt to cover it totally, so you don't 'see' the pot). My husband is Sicilian and Catholic....we have angels, lights, tinsel, nativity, flashing lights and all manner of colours....you name it it goes on the tree, stuck on the balustrade, windowsills, hung from the ceiling fans....every surface of the family room is covered in Christmas 'stuff', it's not glamorous, stylish or organised....but even 'bah humbug' yours truly wouldn't have it any other way.

We gave up on having Christmas trees. Didn't mind so much the cats climbing them, but got tired of cleaning up after them after they chewed on them. Didn't matter if it was real or artificial.

Our cats don't climb the tree, but as it's growing in a pot the soil is a tempting 'toilet' - I pile pine cones around the top of the pot and it keeps them off it....it just adds to the 'festive air'

This year I cut a small tree that our son had planted in the early 90's. The trees are dying because they are not disease resistant, so this year it is a memory tree in his honor. Totally forgot how messy a real tree is, back to my artificial one next year. Real tree will not hold my ornaments like the artificial one, only put special memory decorations on for DH and son. I also do the LED lights, always color ones and had to put my bubblers in a piece of wood to display them this year.

We always get a real tree, we get a small one (4-foot ish) and put it up on a table so the dogs & cats don't destroy it. We don't have a theme at all; our ornaments are a random mishmash of stuff. We each have ornaments from our childhood that our mothers passed on to us, ornaments we made ourselves when we were young & poor and having our first Christmas on our own, ornaments painted by my niece & nephew; plus crazy random things we've bought over the years or have had given to us - some of it is very silly, some of it is classy, some of it is just weird but each one has memories. We use colored lights and we have some wreaths made of wooden beads that are painted red & white.

It's random and chaotic but I love it. Each ornament has meaning to us.

I also like a live tree but they dry out to soon here in Arizona.

Now that they have out the safer bubble lights and candle lights, I like those because they are what we had on our trees when I was little. I recall many burnt fingers from those old lights.
BTW, live trees dry out too fast here in Texas also. That's why we use artificial trees.

Merry Christmas

I had real trees until DH went and bought me a white tree a couple years ago, because I said I had always wanted one. The one he bought has multicolored lights built in, so no more light strings for me! Except for the lights, this year I want the entire Christmas to be red, white, & blue, in honor of my best friend's DH, who retired from the Army last year, and will be here this Christmas for the first time in many years.
