My husband retired a couple of years ago, and we think we want to move. We live where it is 90 - 105 degrees four to six months out of the year. You don't really want to spend much time outside in that. We are outdoor kind of people so we would love to move somewhere where it is nice to be outside 75% of the time. We also love the seasons, so we don't really want (nor can we afford) coastal California type living. Neither of us has lived in major snow areas, so we are a little hesitant to move to a place where we would be snowed in for 6 months of the year. Is there a place where it is NICE to be outside a large portion of the year???

Iowa is a good place to be. We have both rural and metropolitan areas so there is something for everyone. Yes, we have snow and cold, but it rarely keeps you in doors very long. We have wonderful outdoor sports for everyone one and age and we have all 4 seasons. We do have some hot, humid weather in July/August, but not for too long. I live in a University town so there is a lot of things going on, but the atmosphere is of small town as well (Ames, IA).

Up North

I love Michigan but that depends on what you like. I am an indoor person too and Like all the seasons we did have a couple hot days near 100 but most of the time it is in the 70"s winter can be iffy sometimes we get a lot of snow but the plows are good and when I worked I only missed a couple of days here and there to to weather. I live in Northern Michigan near the tip of the mit.

We live in a great location here in So. Calif. One hour to the beach in one direction, one hour to the mountains or go east and end up in the desert then out west is Hollywood, if that sort of thing is of interest to you.

I live is So. Cal. - 6 miles from the Mexican Border, love the temperature but the prices can be a pain. But I used to it after 38 years. My sister just moved up to Camano Island in Washington State from Rialto CA. You have the 4 seasons, it can be a culture shock, but we were raised in Edmonds WA so she knew what she was getting into. They have a lot more rain, but people are still out and about because for the most part it is gentle rain. I would recommend a prolonged visit before actually moving there. The gray can really depress a lot of people.

They have state sales tax and property taxes (no Prop 13 though) but no state income taxes.

I have never lived in Oregon, near the coast, it is beautiful and they do not have the sales tax. Also, they pump your gas, no extra charge compared to what we pay in San Diego.

Favorite Fabrics

I pretty much like the weather here in upstate NY - yes, even the snow - but if I could, I'd change it so that we had just one more month with leaves on the trees. As it is, we have green leaves 5 months, colorful leaves 1 month, and then... well, you gotta get used to black, white, gray, brown and taupe.

My taste in seasons, as in fabrics, runs more toward "colorful"!

I love where I live...just wish we had tropical weather...I despise cold, ice, snow, naked trees and anything winter related....I have pictures if I ever want to see any of it again

I'm originally from Florida, living now in Minnesota, and I can honestly say...I DO NOT LIKE IT...

Like Jim above, I hate winter (which is about 8 months up here), and when summer finally gets here, the bugs come out...we have mosquitos and these biting gnats here, and believe it or not, growing up in Florida with summers spent in southern Alabama, I never knew gnats would bite till we moved here.

If someone told me I had to choose between two places to live, it would be Hawaii (for obvious reasons), or central Tennessee...I really like that area.
