How long does this go on? I feel like I've been going through it for 10 years now. Up at 3:45? On Sunday? boo-hoo-hoo

So I thought you all could share with me the most annoying symptoms or issues you had with this women's wonder. For me, being regularly scatterbrained, the extra padding around the middle, and thinking about The End pretty much win.

I figure there isn't much I can do about the last two, but I would like to be able to remember what I was doing two seconds ago before starting something new...

Hi! Sorry that you can't sleep. I guess that everybody is different when it comes to menopause, but I hated the hot flashes and night sweats, and the extra weight that I put on. I had always been more on the thin side until meno. I went from about 135 to 163 then finally lost some of it. My worst symptoms lasted for about 5 years. I thought it was never going to end.

I hope things get better for you soon. At least you know that when you can't sleep, and don't want to sew, there are always people on here that will talk to you and keep you company!

Hi..I understand all too well. I had a full hysterectomy at age 35. Was put on hormones(premrin) for 10 years. Now I'm off the pills and I've finished menapause (only a year). Scatterbrained is the perfect word! And yes padding too!

I use a table fan at night and it does help. (All year long)! Cotton, cotton, cotton. Minimum bedding helps too(blankets and cotton sheets). 47 and holding on! I got up at 3:25 yes boo hoo birds chattering at 4:10 good luck!

All of the above!!! My doc finally gave me some mild sleeping pills. At least now, I can usually sleep about 4 hours at a time. For the memory thing I take vitimin b. Also, vitimin d helps tremendeously with the mood swings.

It amazes me how these things just happen. The hot flashes don't really bother me but the night sweats are annoying. I'm eating better, healthier, but have to have some kisses or m&m's handy.

I didn't want to get up that early but didn't want to lay in bed either. The sun is rising now which is great to watch so it's the sun, me, and the cats.

Welcome, and join the "dawn age" club. That's want I call it as I am always up at dawn.

I usually wake up anywhere from 3:00 to 5:00. I think I have slept till 7 once in the last 10 years, but that was due to taking another sleeping pill at 3:00 in the morning and not sleeping for 2 days prior.

I take a lot of vitamins prescribed from my doctor but don't know if they truely helped menopause. They were for another health issue, but I guess it killed 2 birds on many pills. ;)

The hot flashes finally stopped, except for an occassional one, but as for the sleeping I've gotten used to it.

When I wake up at 3 I put on a cup of coffee, boot up my computer, and pop onto the message board to check anything new.

Then I have about 4 hours before anyone else is up!

I like that. I can do anything I want (unless it is noise involved) by myself. I sew, go outside and watch the sunrise and the birds starting to wake up (with my coffee).

I really love this time as it is my time to be alone without someone asking for something. My DH rarely leaves me alone as I had a stroke in 2003, so this time is precious to me. I am fine now, as they figured out it was due to a blood disease and it is controlled with medicine. But he is my DH and worries about me.

So again, welcome to the "Dawn Club"! You'll get used to it and enjoy it in time. Just think of all the extra hours you have to enjoy!

Hugs, Jan!

10 YEARS! What does your doctor recommend? Isn't there hormone testing for natural cremes to help?

I took a soy supplement 4 times a day and it kept the flashes to a minimum and then they only lasted about 6 months. My body reminded me when it was time to take another soy.

Caffeine and chocolate and alchohol (in any form) are
BIG NO-NOs. When I've eaten/drank them I could feel an increase in the flashes that the soy wasn't taking care of.

A "PM Non-Aspirin" was my bestest friend for a LONG TIME.

So far so good here - Knock on wood! Good Luck

The night sweats were the worst for me but they happened while I was in perimenopause (sp??). When I reached menopause the night sweats stopped but I started to gain weight. That was about 2 years ago. I had food cravings....I couldn't get enough junk food. I even started to hide the goodies so my family wouldn't know how much I ate. My cravings have started to ease off over the last few months and I've already lost some of the weight. I hope to get back to my regular weight within the next year..........says she with lots of optimism!!!
