Visiting your area to look for job--need information!

Hi Cowgirl quilter, I live 60 miles south of Laramie and 40 miles south of Cheyenne in Colorado. I can tell you it is cheaper to live in Wyoming than it is in Colorado. It gets pretty cold in Laramie and the wind blows a lot in Cheyenne Depending on what kind of work you are looking for, Laramie is a college town and the largest employer. Cheyenne has an air force base and is probably the largest employer. I will tell you because of the drought, hay is terribly expensive, as much as $10-15 a small bale. We have theraputic horses for special needs kids and adults. Ask me how I know??

Oh my gosh, you will definitely be "my kind of person" and you will laugh because here in California hay is CHEAP at that price....lol!!!
I was checking out rentals and cmparing them with acreage for all of our critters...you know the drill...and found that for $500 less per month I could have a huge house in Laramie with 15 acres and a barn!! My gosh, we rent a small cottage with NO room for critters and NO barn and NO acreage for almost two thousand.....I am so ready to move.
If I decide to come visit, may I message you? I really would like to end up in Laramie or Cheyenne......but God only knows right now.

Just had friends more to Wyoming from Colorado and they were shocked at the cost of living difference. They said it was much higher in Wyoming especially for housing. They work for the railroads and the jobs pay well and are always recruiting. You might try searching on line different areas. Zillow is a good search tool for houses. Railroads take military experience into account too.

I don't think you can get 10 acres within 45 minutes of downtown Dallas - maybe to the east of Dallas. Ft Worth would be a better bet. There are so many large surburbs around Dallas and the area from Ft Worth to Dallas is just one big city, no open area between them. You probably need to narrow your area down a little bit. As in most cities you will have to almost leave the counties the cities are in and go to the next counties to get acreage of that size.
There are horses everywhere and jobs are available. I guess it all depends upon what you are qualified for as to the job situation in your field.And it would depend upon where you were working as to whether or not you could drive to the country in 45 minutes or not and what time of day you were traveling. I wish you luck.
We moved here from Benicia, Ca. and have 2 acres but we are halfway between Ft Worth and Waco, definitely not a good commuting distance to either city. When we moved here the cost of living was much cheaper than Ca. but I really don't know how it compares now.

Ok I went & looked. There are 6 houses for rent & none o' em w/acreage. Most o' the houses that were for sale w/acreage are w/mobile homes. There were 4 or 5 w/real houses. I was lookin' for under 250,000 ta 100,000. I have no idea what price range you had in mind. Most o' these houses were 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, & 2 living areas.

We would welcome you to the Great State of Oklahoma! I live about 25 minutes north of Oklahoma City in a small town. Most people here do commute. We are a one stop light town which is just the way I like it Edmond would also be a place to check for jobs. It is a very-fast growing city (it used to be where the people in the City moved cause they wanted to be outside of the City!) It is hard to find small acreages here to rent, but I am sure that what I think is high-rent would be really moderate compared to California Any questions, please feel free to call ~ would love to meet you and show you around sometime.
Be prepared for a big change in weather if you are coming this direction, though!!!!!
