Do you have something so special to you that it is the first thing you want to hang on the tree?
This is a little tin jockey and horse that was given to my Aunt Ethel to play with in the hospital when she had her tonsils out in 1906. It was given to me as a child because of my love of horses. It is 103 years old this Christmas and is the oldest thing on my tree.

I will ask hubby to post pix later of our ornaments. They were given to us by friends in California. I nursed her baby for her when she was really sick and she gave us these ornaments as a thank you gift. We always hang them on last and kiss :lol: I often think of them!

We have bought an ornament every year that we have been together, often commemorating some special event of the year. Those go on the tree first, from oldest to newest. We reminisce about each of them as we hang them. This year we hung 29 ornaments.

It's a little raspberry ornament, it was in the first box of Christmas ornaments I bought in 1955. I almost cried when the little strawberry one fell from the tree and broke. There are a few round balls remaining but the raspberry always is on our tree. May in Jersey

We have collected a Christmas ornament from every place we have visited. I'll have to admit that DH does get a little tired of me dragging him to a Christmas store everywhere we go, but he goes along. Every Christmas we enjoy each trip again when we hang them.
I also have about 3 or 4 really old ornaments left from a set that Mom bought years and years ago..I'm very careful with them...they are bell shaped and they are flocked.

I have to admit that I did not put the old stuff on the tree this year. (except for the tin jockey). I figure I have plenty of ornaments that are sturdy enough to take a fall if kitty cats get too close. Next Christmas they will be 1 1/2 years and a little less likely to play with hanging items. Although for little kids, they have been VERY good. They mostly like to sleep under the tree with the presents.

I have one piece left from my childhood nativity set, it's the Guardian Angel that hung over the manager made in the late 40's out of plaster. I think this was handed down from another family member and she is slightly battered and the paint is chipped but it's special to me. Moosegirl
