I have been getting what is known as skin tags. They seem to appear over night. I have had them removed from my neck area. The dermotologist said they would get bigger if not removed. Yuk, they are disgusting enough to look at when they are small. Now they are appearing in my underarm area. My eye dr. said they are common on the eyelid and around the eyes too. I"ve never had medical attention for my armpit before but there is a first time for everything.

I've gotten them too but right on my face. My dr said its considered "cosmetic surgery" to have them removed. Terrific. I'm waiting for one to pop out right on the end of my nose.

yep, i've got what they now call AGE spots. funny thing is the Derm used to zap them and called them pre cancerous. well one of the now AGE spots turned into Basal Cell skin cancer and he removed it. what about the others? I'm about to change Derm's soon anyway. tired of being told i'm old in sneaky ways.
as we age though, our imune systems get older too and that's why the skin tags appear. sorry.

Native - Every doc I go to; from family to specialtist - they all use the term "That is part of the aging process." I always walk out of their offices and want to scream - if I hear that one more time...... They must teach that in medical school. Come to think of it after my eye exam this year that doc said the same thing about my eyes!

Why is it considered cosmetic surgery? Mine were removed with an office visit. My Derm freezes them, it takes only seconds and they are gone for good. Insurance covered it like they do for any office visit. I think it's all how a Dr. office will submit it to insurance. Cosmetic surgery is way more expensive then routine Dr. visit. I'd change Drs. And any Dr. can remove them with freezing, if they aren't by the eye area.

Forgot to say the Dr. said the tags were caused by a type of virus, not necessarily by old age. Many younger people are plagued by them. He suggested I bath my body with Johnson's baby shampoo, that helps suppress them especially around the eye area.

I got them too. I sterilized the manicure scissors and snipped them off. I had one on my underarm and one on my eyelid.
