I was on my first cruise ship. in Hawaii. We went deep sea fishing that morning and didn't find out about it until 2 pm when we got back to the ship.
We were on a 50 year old ship. The ship was use in the movie Affair To Temember. After 9-11 the line went under. We didn't get to visit Pearl Harbor on wed like was planned because the base was closed.
We made our trip back home on Sat with long line and long waits.
Since the ship was so old we didn't have all the Tv the ships do these days. So a lot of the information we didn't even get until we got home.

I was in teaching a high school algebra class and they called me to the office for a call I thought it was my husband calling to say happy anniversary It was our twentieth. But they wanmted all the teachers to know what was going on
My husband and my uncle are both truck drivers who both drive daily through the part of Pennslyvannia that the third plane went down in. Of course living in New York we have family and friends who live and work in New York City

I was just settling down at my desk with a fresh cup of coffee. I worked in an office, a cubical farm of co-workers. Minutes later one of the girls popped up over the cubical and said she just got a call from her husband who said that a plane just hit one of the towers. As we all stood then to talk about the tragedy of that single event, she got a second call, it was her husband telling her there was a second plane and it struck the second tower. We all then tuned our radios to the same local news station, turned up the volume and spend the day trying to be productive but failing with every broadcast news update.

I wasn’t here to experience Pearl Harbor and too young to remember the assassination of J.F.K., but I will never NEVER forget September 11, 2001.

I was at home drying my hair when the news came on. Because of the optical illusion of the picture, I thought it was a small plane with an idiot for a pilot and went to work. I stayed at work all day and listened to the news on the radio. To this day, I have never watched all the scenes of people jumping or the whole scene with the other plane hitting etc.

I was meeting my friend at a Salvation Army store. As I went into the store a gentleman came out and said NYC had been bombed. There was a TV on in the back of the store and several customers gathered as the second plane struck. As I watched the dust ball roll down the street I thought of my cousin who was working at One Wall Street. He got off the subway at a different stop to buy a donut that morning. He ended up ducking into a shop to watch the dust go by. He lives in Yonkers and it took a lot of walking before he found a ride home.

I work at a small Christian college with a lot of international students. Many parents and relatives work in NYC or DC. They brought a large screen TV into the Campus Center where everyone gathered to just sit and watch and pray.

My husband and I (boyfriend at the time) were living in DC. He was in the military, and was in training to work for White House Communications Agency. He was excited, because his class was going to be visiting the Pentagon that day. I was working at the customer service desk at Target. I remember some lady coming in and saying something about us being "attacked". I thought she was crazy... I went on break a short time later, and saw all the news coverage of the plane hitting the first tower. As I was sitting there, I watched as the second plane hit the second tower. I was stunned. I went back to work (not much choice!) when someone told me the Pentagon had been hit as well. I was freaking out, to say the least... I got a call a while later from a friend/co-worker of DH's. He let me know that DH didn't end up going to the Pentagon that day, because of the attacks in New York, they actually needed the class as phone operators (for the White House). I can't even explain to you the feeling I had....
I have to stop typing now, I can't see the keyboard through the tears..... Thanks for listening.

My sister came in my bedroom and woke me up and said there
was a plane hit the world trade center. She was down here visiting me from Springfield, Mo. I got up and saw them showing another plane hitting the second building. TV staying on the rest of the day. What a day. I felt really bad. Will never forget that day.

I was still in bed - working only part time then. Pat was deployed at the time to France. My GF called me screaming into the phone. I remember sitting on the couch and watching the second plane go into the building. As many times as I have seen that image, I still cannot get my mind around it.

We were lucky because Pat was able to come home. Military planes were allowed while commercial ones were still grounded. It was real important to have my honey close. Regardless where we went, there was a connection to someone lost. It touched us all. That was an attack on humanity - not just an attack on the US.

I had just moved to Ohio my aunt called and told me to put the TV on. I saw the second plan hit. My son was in NY at the seminary and he was taking classes at St Johns University. I worried for his safty. I tried to call and couldn't get through. Later that afternoon I called the seminary and they were not sure where the students were at the time. I sat and hoped all was OK. I finally heard from my son the next day. After the first plan hit the students could see the smoke from their class room window. As they were looking at that they saw the second plan hit. They couldn't get back to the Bronx so the seminarians stayed at a seminary on LI as the bridges were all closed. I was still worried, however that weekend there was a Mass for the fallen heros. There was news coverage from St Patricks in NY and my son was an altar server for the Bishop and he was 1 of the first to walk down the isle in posession. I felt MUCH better once I saw him. My ex BIL worked in tower 2 and would have never made it out. It just so happened he had a bussiness breakfast meeting that day and wasn't there. My ex husband and family didn't know that and thought they lost him. My DD was a jr in HS and the schools were on lock down so I was unable to get her. if it would have happened now I would have demanded they let her leave with me. It was a sad time as the area where I lived on LI had lost many people that day. We lost friends and neighbors. My friends from LI had memorals to go soemtimes 2 or 3 in a day. It was impossible to even park a car in the neighborhood where I had moved from. My cousin was an EMT but he was on his honeymoon when it happened if he wasn't he would have been in the tower when it fell. After the attack my cousin was 1 of the EMT's at ground zero for about 18 months. He said at the beginning the smell from the uncovered bodies was unreal and no one should have to witness what he saw. Remeber NY city is know for it's rats. Shortly after the 18 months of being at ground zero he moved to Fl and works on a fishing boat. What he experienced at ground zero was more then he could handle.
