I'm okay with where we are at the moment. We've lived all over and came back to Ohio for the grandkids and my parents were not in great health. Since then dad has passed away and mom's memory is bad so we're here at least until she passes. Weather is more stable than some parts of the country. Plenty of rain this year.
I would love to live in a temperate area where the temps are 75 to 80. Can't afford Hawaii!

OOOhhh, another FL to MN here (via a few other places). Hubby's from SD...met him in FL, moved back to SD with him, then down to AR a bit, back to SD, and for the past 20 years here...Like you, I can't stand the weather, but I have a great job, good friends here, so as long as I stay indoors, life is good.

I'd give my eye teeth to live in TN or KY, with a second home in HI...Hey, we all have to dream. :lol:

I'm still living in the same house my late DH had when we married in 1967. The neighborhood used to be very nice, but over the years has gone down hill so that we lock up tight at night and day, neighbors keep small kids locked in the back yards, etc.
My sister and I have been discussing having a mobile home made for us with two master suites with an extra room for my sewing. Maybe some day.

In Michigan Center here, Love Michigan, would only go north if I had the chance. Lived up there before.

I live on a farm about two hours northwest of Toronto at the highest elevation in Southern Ontario. We have a beautiful rolling property and most shopping is available in a small town six miles away. Big box store shopping (Walmart etc.) is about 35 miles away but that is ok as I really don't need to go there. The farm has been the perfect place to raise our family but has not been a big money maker. It is the lifestyle we have embraced and has made us who we are.

We are on 10 acres in the country--5 minutes from a village, 20 minutes from a decent sized town and 55 minutes from a city. I would love to downsize the property to 1-3 acres, change the house from 2 1/2 storey to a bungalow, and be closer to real shopping. But the children are only an hour away (in two different directions) and we are far enough away from extended family, that they don't just 'drop in'--a bonus in my opinion.

We moved here because of our priorities:

1. Had to be in CA.
2. Had to be sparsely populated.
3. Reasonably priced properties.
4. Reasonably clean air

Our house isn't much, especially compared to what our old home was like, but we look at this home as a "temporary" situation, and when our granddaughter is out of college, then we'll either build a bigger home or put a modular home on our property.

Old home: 1700 sq. ft., 500 sq. ft., sewing room, complete with shower, etc., 32'x22' garage, 4.5 acres, seasonal creek through the back side of the property, 35 miles from town.

New home: 1963 single wide mobile home with an add on, for a total sq. footage of 800, a "garage and barn" with dirt floor and by no ways "air tight", actually is more of a large shed with doors, sewing room is 135 sq. ft, no creek but we do have 80 acres now, 7 miles out of town.

Alturas has virtually everything we need and the best thing is, with the exception of Rite Aid, all the businesses are locally owned and operated.
