Five years ago I didn't even know how to work a sewing machine! But, my daughters were growing out of their toddler stage and growing UP! They were taking after DH, who is 6'8" and nothing that fit them int he waist was fitting them in length in the stores so a friend at church gave me a lesson on my machine and a rundown on sewing pattern lingo. It wasn't until 3 years ago that I learned how to quilt.

Right now I'm on break from quilting to make some skirts for my girls that go below their knees. My youngest is still in her princess mode so I'm making her some skirts as well.

I do an occasional Halloween Costume if the kids can't find what they want in a store. Right now I'm hemmimg about 12 pair of size 3T pants for my girlfreinds grndson. Then I do simple repairs, seam mending, a patch here and there. Not too much other stuff...........Oops, AND I have not quilted a thing, ever before. LOL......I'm working of my very first hand stitched English Paper Piece Hexagon quilt, the top is finished after 3 years and I just recently bought my backing and batting.....getting ready to start the basting part...This part frightens me more than Halloween, LOL.

I have sewn everything from seat covers to wedding dresses. At one point i made all of my family's clothing (even jeans and underwear for a little while). Most of the time i couldn't afford to buy fabric for quilting and i'm not much of a scrappy quilter. Love all crafty things too. Too many things not enough time and money.

I am humbled by your talent phusker5, as much I've sewn clothing, I have never made jeans. I thought I was doing good making my daughter's coats. I bow to your expertise!

Yes I sew, and knit, and crochet et cetera. Started at 6 if
you count darning my Dad's socks. First sewing when I was 11, at school. VERY basic. Sewed special clothes for myself all thru high school and college. I started changing (altering) my clothes from the very first dress. I Like to learn by doing. Sewed for my daughter from the panties and jacket of her layette that she wore home from the hospital to her bride's dress and veil (plus 4 bridesmaid's dresses). Quilting started in 1989 when I lived in Seattle and took classes at In The Beginning from Marilyn Doheny. Stopped sewing- and got totally hooked on quilting. That makes 54 years not counting the darning. No one would believe the hundreds of notions and threads I have (stash aside). My mother never used her sewing machine but I inherited lots from my m-in-law. I'm vintage.

I used to do quite a bit of garment sewing when my children were small However, now that I have started quilting, I do much more of that, & less garment sewing. Currently on my agenda are a quilt for my daughter, one for my Dad, & fleece jackets for both my daughter & myself.

I have sewn since I was young, making most of my daughters clothing, made my son a three peice suit for his senior pictures, BUT then I started quilting, I no longer have time for that kind of stuff. I do make something occationally for one of my grandkids if they ask, just cause I can't say no to them. One of my granddaughters came over one day to ask me if I could repair a pair of her thong underwear, they were almost new, from a popular exsensive store. My DH said grandma can repair anything, but she needs all the pieces first.(laugh of the day)
