I don't know how many of you are aware of the fact that we have had major rains and flooding in Georgia this past week. Some areas got as much as 20" in just a few days. After years of drought, this was quite a change.

It was so bad that schools were closed, interstates were impassable and closed, roads had huge sinkholes, water rose to second story levels in some homes, and 100 year old trees were toppling because of loose roots. Six Flags over Georgia was underwater (the roller coaster looked like the Loch Ness monster!) The governor has declared a state of emergency and asked the president for aid.

Here are a few pics for you. You can see more at

I'd seen an article about the road breaking up, either that one or another much like it. I hadn't realized how bad the flooding was.

Which of our quilters live in the affected areas? How are you all doing?

Marcia, where do you live in proximity to Atlanta? Is it bad where you live? I'm in NE Alabama & for the last 3 wks it's been raining. Thur & Fri we had Sunshine, but more rain today. I'll be praying for all involved & that everyone stays safe.

This is so tragic for those families. My sister was going to buy in that area! but when she found out it was in a low area she changed her mind. Everyone told her not to worry about it.

I actually live about an hour south of downtown Atlanta. But, three of my "kids" live in the area that has had a lot of the flooding. Their homes are safe for now, but if this rain doesn't stop soon, we may all be underwater!!

I am thinking of building an ark!!

Have you had any flooding where you are?

We've had some flooding, but not where I'm at on Sand Mt close to Boaz & Ft. Payne. We had one bridge wash out, but haven't heard of anything else. We have more rain today, but supposed to clear up & be nice next week.

Hopefully the Sun will come out & you'll will be safe. Sending prayers your way Marcia.

Thanks, Sheila Elaine--I am glad to hear you are okay too. It rained again today!! I feel like singing "rain, rain, go away...."

We lived in Ft Leavenworth, KS in 1993 when the midwest flooded. That was so tragic and affected so many more people. My oldest daughter and I sandbagged in Leavenworth to try to save the downtown. This came on too quickly in Georgia to prepare for.

Marcia, I know it's scary when your children & their families are closer than you are to the danger. Have everyone keep their tanks filled & be ready to head out of town if it gets worse. I pray the rain is over for awhile.
