WHAAAAAT??? You mean she's going through battery power on her laptop, right?

My husband is a certified network engineer. He has done this for a living with corporations and businesses. The two things he said when I read the OP's message to him were:

1. she needs to make sure the wires are connected to the router in the right spot. This is usually what people do wrong, especially if you have 2 routers. You have one router that brings the internet into the house, and a second router that transforms the signal into wifi. If the wires are not set up correctly, the communication between the routers will "confuse" the routers, and you may end up only being able to connect intermittently when one router manages to pull the correct IP address. (this is me parsing his response, which was long and complicated)

2. It could be a SSID issue, and you would need help from the router's support center to resolve that.

Basically, I'm echoing others here who are advising you to contact customer support.

I also have a Linksys and was unable to set it up and get it working. We had a new ISP at the time and I called them for help. After walking me through the steps, it worked. I was then told if I had other problems to call the manufacturer. Since it is new, you should not have to pay them to get it to work, so do call. It was actually easy, but the correct sequence matters.

Hey Stagecoach. This is Yerington! I have wireless in my house for my family & friends that come to visit. I am connected to the router. If your present company doesn't offer it try Highland Wireless Co out of Virginia City. I have had their internet system for 3/4 years now. Their system has the satellite like you do.

I use Belkin. It was simple to setup and use.

Thank you - if I still have problems after trying another router, I will keep this in mind.

Linksys does not work - trust me - but then we upgraded, got DSL and wireless goes through our house; so now company can use their laptops when they come, and we have two computers on it - works great!

We have three computers and a wireless printer linked together with a signal coming from Verizon. It's not a satellite link precisely; operates much the same way you get a signal on a cell phone. The system operate fairly well most of the time. Bad weather or heavy cloud cover are a problem. The network itself operates fine except that the printer is sometimes cranky. I gather that's not unexpected. They haven't quite got the wireless technology smoothed out in printers. Good luck with you set-up. It can be a bit frustrating to get the whole thing working.

I have netgear provided by the cable company and they hooked up what we had at the time, I have since added and a quick call, netgear walked me thru it and even put a security code on it since I am in an apartment comples.

Call your cable company/the company where you get your Broadband. For a price they will come out and do it. Not that expensive. Only problem is I have to now pay a wireless charge each month on my cable/internet bill. Probably wouldn't if it had been bought and hooked up on my own. Or find some teenager...they'll know how!

I have one and thankfully my soon to be ex sil does all (did all) the computer connections I needed. So I cannot tell you if it is easy to set up but is worth it if more than 2 PCs in thehome or wireless printer.
Take care.
