Default yet another Paypal scam to watch out for

I did not know about this - it was enough to finally make me change my PP password (Ebay password as well).

Apparently scammers can swoop in to your PP account, print Express Mail postage to Russia and other countries to the tune of hundreds of dollars. The good news is that PP will usually not hold you accountable for the charges. So if you get a notice in your email that you printed a shipping label, and you don't remember doing it, check it out. You can read about it here. It has happened to a bunch of people.

Sounds like ebay, paypal and usps is passing the buck a lot. Hopefully they will get it straightened out.

The only way these scammers can "swoop" into your paypal account is if they have your password. This is why you should;

a) never use simple, easy-to-guess passwords.
b) never fall for those phishing emails that scammers send out, pretending to be from paypal.

My guess is most of these people were victimized by b), above. In the scamming trade, this is known as "social engineering." They use a phishing email to get your password, then a few months later, use that PW to break into your paypal account and do stuff like this...

I got an E/Mail from PayPal today with my full name saying my account now has a ''limit'' I do not or ever have had a PayPal acct.I never shop on-line. Seems to risky to me. My son does it all the time without problems so if I see something on Ebay I'll tell him and then he looks for a better deal on it and orders for me through his acct. Works out for both of us.

I think the main problem is since they have gone to "Ebay" shipping instead of Paypal shipping. When you print a label on Ebay it takes the money from your PP account without you having to sign in to PP. It is called a third party authorization. I went into both of my ebay accounts and revoked 4 authorizations on each one, some of which I had no idea how they got there.

ETA - I just checked one of my accounts and they had put one of the authorizations back. I took it out again..
