that the first prerequisite for an ironing board cover would be, "Stands up to heat". Well, I bought a cheap one off the internet, and the first time I ironed on it, the "metallic" cover melted. I did get a full refund from the seller, but I am waiting to see if they stop selling it. I told them about the problem and suggested they test it themselves.

Yes, one would think that an ironing board cover would be heat resistant. Golly!

I would expect to leave an iron set at "Linen" on a spot for 30 seconds before anything bad happened.

Hey, Rowenta irons are still out there even though they've been told of many instances of them causing fires. Don't hold your breath.

I could not find the silicone ironing board covers like I used to buy so I went to Joann's and bought fabric and made my own. works good.

don't be fooled by that, the one I bought also said "Silicone". I got an old duvet cover and made my own. Took a LONG time to get the drawstring through, but it looks nice now!
