Default Hey there! Very new to quilting.

So new I don't even have a proper machine yet, which is how I found this site actually. I'm researching for a good beginner machine under $400. I'm looking forward to reading through this forum!

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. If I was just starting to sew, I might pick up a machine at Walmart or similar to see if I actually liked sewing. You might ask around to see if anyone in your family has an old machine that they want to get rid of (that works) and has all the parts.

My advice would be to not spend that much on a machine and save the money for fabric which gets very expensive. There are many used machines on sites such as craigs list, or perfectly good new machines at walmart. I still sew on an old kenmore I bought 30 years ago and at that time it was one of the least expensive sears had. Of course if you don't have to watch your money the fancy machines would be awesome to have but certainly not necessary .

I agree with Tartan - see if someone in your family has a machine you can borrow or purchase from them. I've recently begun this hobby myself and am using my mom's old machine. She can't see that well anymore and doesn't use it. But she can offer suggestions from time to time so it's been nice. If I stick with this for a full year, I plan to buy a nicer machine then. Good luck and hope you find what you are looking for.

Welcome to QUILTING!!!!!!!!!!! I love old Singers, I have a sort of expensive Pfaff for everyday, but for beginners I love Janome machines. You don't need expensive to achieve a beautiful end product. Keep quilting. It is art, it is expression, it is therapy, it is improvisation, it is a revelation, it is creativity, it is YOU on fabric. You will discover your evolvement of yourself. This form of expression is truly AMAZING. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God Bless, Sophie

Welcome from Texas! Good luck finding a starter machine. I have seen some nice Janome and Brother machines ....Both new and used that were very reasonable.
