Default Brand New to Quilting

I never did a quilt in my life and have very little knowledge of the sewing machine! Any suggestions for something very simple to start off with? Thanks!!

First...get used to that sewing machine. Read the manual, etc. I love the Irish Chain for a beginner quilt. straight lines, ends up with nine patch and single blocks alternated to form a chain look.

Google "Single Irish Chain Quilt pattern"...and tons will come up...choose a free one.

Check this group for information also...if you don't see a pattern for Irish chain, look for "nine patch"
If you have questions...this quilt board will be there for you.

Howdy and welcome, from Texas!

Before you start quilting, you might want to do a few simple sewing projects, to get familiar with your machine.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Read your machine instructions to get familiar with the features. If you bought it at a local dealer, take a beginner's quilt class if you can. If you are starting on your own, buy some cotton fabric to get started. You can sew with other fabrics but cotton is easier. Sew yourself a couple of pot holders and then move up to placemats or a table runner. You can find some great YouTube videos done by the Missouri Star Quilt co. to start you on your way.

Welcome from Southern California. Once you decide what you want to make, then find a good book to have close at hand or video it a great help too. I did the very basic patchwork quilt for my first one. It gets you sewing the 1/4 inch seam and then matching corners. Just don't be too critical of your work. Everyone looks back at the first few quilts and cringe then laugh.
