I've just started quilting after collecting magazines and books for several years. I've always been afraid to get started, but new I just needed to jump in. I made by machine quilting a baby quilt from a pattern. The front looked good, but the back -- that's another story. Do all quilt backs look not so good?

Now being retired from education and no more long days at school and having a three year old grandson who loves "Cars", I thought he would be forgiving of any lack of quality. So I've collected fabric and, with using a "Cars" panel as the center, I have finally figured out the size of blocks and borders needed.

My biggest concern with the quilt will be what the back looks like, but then again people don't really look at that so much. And should I machine quilt or hand quilt (which I have never done)?

Welcome from Missouri. I'm sure your grandson will love his "car" quilt even if you think the back doed not look perfect. The main thing is to relax and have fun. The more you quilt the better you will become. Machine or by hand, either way is fine, do whichever way you enjoy the most.
