Default Nautical attic windows quilt

Hi There, I've just joined your group and am excited to begin large quilt making. I've been sewing for ages (30+ years) and have made numerous placemants, runners etc. I enjoy the quilt as you go method but am looking forward to making quilts. I currently have sampler blocks done and need to integrate them into a queen size quilt. I also have a stash of Tall Ships nautical fabric by David Carter Brown. I would welcome ideas into making the panels into a quilt.
Looking forward to learning so much on this site.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Use the search box on QB to find Attic Window quilts made from panels to get some ideas on how they look.

Hello! I'm almost Canadian -- or at least I grew up in Alaska and now live in the Seattle area. More Fir here than Pine

My usual first stop for on-line buying is eQuilter, they have a ton of free patterns most of which are based on panels of coordinating fabric. Didn't have anything come up for your specific fabrics, but you can look for similar themes or block/panel sizes:
https://www.equilter.com/pattern

Jenny Doan of the Missouri Star Quilt Co has a nice video and there are other directions on how to make a single large panel into a quilt like you are looking through a window. (try search on attic window panel quilt)
https://quiltingtutorials.com/tutori...t-with-a-panel

I did an Attic Window a year or so ago (and need a better picture). In mine I used post-card sized blocks of fabric in an Attic Window frame, along with black sashing. Supposed to give the look of those old black-paged scrap books.

Welcome to the QB from SE Michigan. Jenny Doan with MSQC has a great tutorial using panels with attic windows.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-vzI0Jp3ak .
This might be able to take you in the direction you are looking for using your panels. You are in the right place for help from quilters. There is so much shared and so much information given on a daily basis I can hardly keep up with things. Again welcome to the QB!

Thank you ladies for your help and guidance already. I may not have my term right when I say attic windows type quilt. I have 2 of these panels as well as coordinating fabric. I've googled but this fabric is a few years old and discontinued. Wondering how I could create a quilt for a Queen size bed. The pattern is strong and wondering how I could 'tone' it down. Each panel has 4 designs but they are not even size. In total I have 4 pieces (pictures) 12" w x 22" l and 4 pieces 12"w x 10" l. Should I cut them out add borders and treat each 'square' like a quilt. Thank you.

Is always so much easier to understand with a picture!

I think that eQuilter link is a good place to start. Basically what you want to do is to incorporate your pieces into a larger project and there are different ways to do that. One way is create a center and then use different border options.

Some math/changes may be needed to fit your exact panels.

Here's a project with very different fabric but made from rectangle/square panels:
https://www.equilter.com/pattern/1107/lovable-labradors

or here's another design based on squares and rectangles

Thank you so much for the links! Yes, that's the idea I was thinking of. I have a great quilting store in my city (my friend is the owner) but she's very busy. I didn't want to bother her and I do miss going into the store to get ideas.

We bought a cottage a few years ago and I wanted to make a 'sailing quilt' for DH. I've been gathering the fabric and now is the time to put it together.

Many years ago we lived in Vancouver but I never made it to Seattle though we did get to the San Juan Islands. Beautiful.

Happy Quilting!

Welcome from Minnesota. I don't have any helpful information, but there are lots of people here who can steer you in the right direction. Good luck with your first big quilt.
