Default Hello from another beginner, and a Texan living in England

Greetings to all. I've been a member a short time and have just become obsessed with patchwork and applique. I've got my first project cut out, waiting for my new sewing machine to be delivered today. I'm attempting a 12"x12" block, which will go on a throw pillow for the sofa. I've learned so much from this forum already, but would just like to confirm a few things:

    1. The "sandwich" for the front of my cushion is patchwork block, batting, plain muslin; then make a solid, non-quilted back for the cushion envelope so that I can insert the cushion and remove it to wash the cover. Does this sound right?

    2. When making this cushion, should I completely finish the front, including seams on all four sides to enclose the batting, or should I attach the back side and somehow close the seams in one fell swoop?

Hope this makes sense. I've got the books "Quilting for Dummies" and "The Quilter's Bible" (Linda Clements) but they don't address the sandwich when making a cushion, only bed quilts. Thanks for any help or advice....

    Jane

Hi and welcome from Ohio. Okay if I understand your questions the answer to #1 is yes. The answer to number 2 is- What I would do is quilt the pillow top the way you want to quilt it and when your done I would square it up and maybe baste around the square and then put the backing on in one swoop. Have fun and post a picture when your done.

Thanks for the welcomes and a big thanks to SueDor for the quilting advice. It sounds good to me so will proceed that way!
