Cool New to quilting, sort of

The last quilt, and the first quilt, I made was 25 years ago. I am now retired and have become obsessed with fiber art. I just returned from a trip to Oahu with my dh and 2 grands. DH came home with lots of grands pix. My phone now has over 100 pix of flowers. Does that make me a bad grandma? I am imagining art quilts. I've started one of the Michigan lily. So far, I've dyed the background fabric (muslin, sun painting) and drawing the flower. Now to teach myself how to cut the pieces. I'm afraid I'll get ahead of myself and ruin it.

Welcome from Georgia! When I'm trying to learn something new or am nervous, I practice on fabric that is either inexpensive or I don't like. I hope flower pics don't make you a bad grandma...if so, I am doomed!

Welcome, from Maryland. I love fiber art as well and have tried several 'nature' quilts...utter failure on my part. I haven't got the hang of realism yet; but if you want a cartoon quilt, I'm your girl! Like katclock said, practice on scraps 'til you're confident. I've also found that sometimes 'mistakes' end up better than what I'd originally planned.
