Default New to Quilting

Having retired over 3 years ago, I decided to take up quilting in my spare time. I've been sewing since I was 11 and made a lot of clothing when I was younger. I made a quilt of butterflies for my son and an Anniversary quilt for my parents 50th. I used to do home decor items too (curtains, pillows, etc). Since my retirement I finished a quilt my daughter and I began when she was young. I was trying to encourage her to learn to sew but she quickly lost interest and the quilt sat with only a top for many years. I took a long arm class at a local quilt shop and used my new found skills to finish the quilt in time for her college graduation. As a matter of fact, I was sitting in the stands stitching the binding on the edges as she marched down the aisle. I also completed a Flower Fairy quilt in the past year using a Handiquilter Avante with Pro-stitcher. I'm really enjoying my new passion and look forward to trying Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt. Maybe I'll also find time to sandwich the most recent quilt top I completed. I've already picked out a hummingbird/flower pattern to use on the Pro-stitcher to go with the hummingbird/flowers that are in the quilt fabric.

I, too, learned to sew when I was young and made all my mom's, my sister's, and my clothes for years. When I married and boys came along, my clothing construction came to an end. When I retired, I took a quilting class at the local community college and have enjoyed the new and different challenges. Welcome from the beautiful mountains of western NC.
