Another Noob!

Cheers all! I am in northwest rural Iowa, and Although my quilt experience has been limited to helping the neighbour lady sew squares together and press seams I have been planning for a year to make a quilt from some of my mother's old things, and at any rate I can see I found a kindred tribe in the vintage and antique sewing machine section. I actually repaired sewing machines for a year or so when I was in High School (the man I worked for did sewing machines and clocks, so I learnt both-I am still a watchmaker.)

My machine is a bachelors' special, 15-30 with the Tiffany decals. I bought it for 20 dollars from the unrepaired/unclaimed stock when I was 14. At that time it was in a blue and white plywood case that had some sort of Morocco paper glued to it, and the machine looked like a work of art but smelled like the inside of a wet boot. When purchased it had an extra pack of needles and a few bobbins. It couldn't run a line of ten stitches without breaking thread. Turns out it had a whole bobbin's worth of putrid thread snarled round the shuttle, and five or six segments wrapped round the post between the tension disks. Over the years I have managed to find a reasonably decent set of attachments, and this last Hallowe'en snagged an oak 7 drawer "Lutheran" case.

Anyways, I was a member at needlebar.org back around 2004-5, (it was there I learnt that my machine's decals had a name-"Tiffany" decals.) and I thought I was pretty inoffensive, still don't know what I did to them to cause trouble but all the same they seem to have booted me. Well, I can't keep everyone happy, but I give my bond I'll behave myself around here. (When one is surrounded by people used to manhandling heavy sewing machines and the like, one finds good behaviour well within grasp!)

Thanks all for making this board available!
