I've been here for a while, on and off, but never really introduced myself.
I guess it's about time, huh?

My name is Terri. I'm a proud Navy wife of almost 21 years, have been with my husband for that long, well, a few months longer. I have 2 beautiful daughters, one married to a Marine, living in Hawaii and the other is still at home and graduating high school this year.
I live on Guam, having just moved from Hawaii. I am originally from RI and miss New England. I have been fortunate to have Uncle Sam send us to Georgia, Hawaii, back to New England (CT), back to Hawaii and now here on Guam. Lord only knows where we will be going once we are done here, but I am praying we go back to the states. Any place where I can have my 4 seasons back would be nice, as long as it's not the midwest. (no offense to anyone there, but I love the ocean).
I've started sewing when I was in jr high and have been sewing on and off. I ended up making the clothes for my youngest daughter because she loved wearing "girlie" clothes and so I could make dresses for her cheaper than I could buy them. I had been quilting in spurts during that time, but really didn't get DEEP into quilting until about 4 years ago when a neighbor friend of mine got me turned back on to it. Now, it seems I can't stop. Just wish I could keep a quilt for myself. Seems they all get new homes once they are done.
I have 2 spoiled rotten cats, Kuhio and Monique. Both had been rescued from the Humane Society and were born in Hawaii. Kuhio is a world traveler since he traveled back to CT, then to HI, then here to Guam. Monique has only been here to Guam, but will start to be a world traveler soon. Monique also LOVES to help her mommy quilt. Especially when the quilt needs to be pinned for the quilting to occur. She thinks that the pins don't belong in the quilt, so she lays on it and pulls them out. Silly kitty. Kuhio just gives them the "comfy test" to make sure they are comfortable for humans as well as cats. Just don't tell him he's a C-A-T. That upsets him.

I guess that's about it for me. If you think I've left anything out or want to know anything else from me, just ask.

Terri

So glad that you decided to join us. My husband is retired AF but we didn't get together until after he retired so I didn't get to travel with him. We have a cat who also likes to take the pins out of my quilt. I think that there is something that says that cats and quilt go together. Please share pictures of your work. We all love to see the talent of others. You are going to love it here. Everyone is very talented and friendly.

Hi Terri:
How nice to meet you. Welcome!

Having been a Navy wife, your travelogue of places you have been stationed brought back many memories for me. One of the memories was being stationed at Quonset Point, R.I.! Is that anywhere near your home? We loved RI and lived right on the bay in Wickford. I worked in Westerly, Wickford and North Kingston with the State of RI. That was many, many years ago.

You'll enjoy your association with the folks on this board. Everyone is so talented and helpful. I know I've learned so much from all of these great folks. Welcome.

Quonset Point was about 30 min from where I grew up. I grew up in Peace Dale, which is a little town (not many people know where it is) next to Wakefield. Right down the road from Univ of RI. My dad worked there and retired from there, no he wasn't a professor, he was a Sr Gardener.
I had an aunt that lived in North Kingstown, but had a tailor/sewing shop in Wickford and my grandparents lived in Hamilton, a small area near Wickford.

I loved growing up there. So much I really didn't want to leave at age 27, but something told me I HAD to. I think it was because I had gotten married..... :)

Wow, all those places you mentioned I remember. I worked in Wakefield, too. Isn't it between Wickford and Westerly. The courthouse is brick...that's where I worked. That was around 1968. Three of us in the office use to drag our sewing machines around in our cars and spend our lunch hours sewing! I used to love all the fabric outlets everywhere. There was one...don't quite remember where maybe in Saunderstown ??? that was a huge, old building choked full of wonderful fabric. Loved it.

OMG!! That was SOO long ago!! Yes, Wakefield is between the 2. OMG!!
My mom and I would go to that fabric store in Saunderstown. It's all changed now. The "old" stores are gone, replaced by housing developments. Such a shame.
Do you remember the ferry to get to Newport, before they built the bridge??
