Hello all,
I am a beginner from NC. I can thread a needle. I have a sewing machine. I want to quilt. I just need to know where to start! |
Welcome from southeast PA!
I would recommend getting one of the Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day books as there are lots of pictures & she covers everything from cutting the fabric to binding the quilt. You can use a coupon at Joanns's when they have a 50% off one. |
Hello and welcome from SW Iowa. Glad to have you here. I started with a how to book. Try that but ask questions here if you want. We love to help.

Welcome from central NC!

Welcome from Ohio! I'm a beginner, too. I took some intro classes at a local quilt shop. I also got a beginning quilting book off ebay. Good luck and enjoy!

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D
With all of this enthusiasm, you are half way there! A begginer's quilt book, check out Youtube for videos explaining sewing 1/4" seams and rotary cutting, purchasing a cutting mat, rotary cutter and a ruler would all be a great start. |
Hello and welcome from Ontario.

Hello & welcome from Michigan! I would start at your local quilt shop, and take a class or two. Have fun, it is very addictive!

Hi and welcome from Alaska.

welcome from South Carolina! I wish we had a quilt shop that offered quilt classes, but we don't. We do have a Hancock Fabrics that has them ~ I haven't taken one yet. If you have never sewn.. I would recommend practicing straight stitches, cut long strips x 2 and keep sewing rows and rows. And as the other gals have said, watch you tube, get a cutting mat and rotary cutter, and flat head pins. You can probably do a internet search for free easy beginner quilt patterns.
good luck & welcome :) the only quilt I've made was actually a little wall hanging that I didn't bind. I put it in a frame |

Hello from KY. You can find so much help on the internet, amazing videos, and any questions you have, there will be someone here to give you the answer. But start small, it is easy to get discouaged if things arent'going right, so just be patient. If you start feeling uptight, walk away for awhile. Let it be fun for you, not work!

Welcome from Oklahoma!

I suggest that you go to your local quilt shop and see if they offer classes. You're a future fabric purchaser, so they want you to succeed. If they don't have classes, they do have advice!
Otherwise, visit the library or buy a book like the others have suggested. And look for a quilting guild near where you live. Lots of advice, there! |

I would suggest going to your local quilt shop and sign up for a beginners quilt class!! Classes are so much fun and it is a hands on learning experience. Besides you meet new friends and most classes are great fun! |
