Hey ya'll! I live in the metro east of St Louis MO. More in the cornfields than in east St Louis. I am originally from South Alabama but moved up here with work.

I have been quilting for 20 years or so. If I am not quilting, I do smocking and heirloom sewing. I am also very involved in our community theater with acting and music stuff. And, I make a lot of the costumes. Fun Fun Fun

Glad I found all ya'll.

God Bless the USA!

Welcome
I'm also from Missouri. In a small town called Knob Noster. We are about 60 min from Kansas City. I'm new to quilting and have found lots of great advise here. Everyone is very friendly and informative. We would love to see some of your quilts if you would like to post them. That is how a lot of us get our ideas.

Lynne,

Welcome! You are going to love all of your new friends here. Do you have any pictures of your costumes and other things you've made? I'd love to see them. :D I am fairly new to quilting and smocking is unfamiliar to me, what exactly is it?

Hi Lynne, Glad you found this group. They are full of helpfull hints & ideas. I'm from MO too, St. Peters, just outside of St. Louis going west. You sound real busy. That's what keeps us young!!!!! Welcome. Pat

Lynne 04-23-2007 07:18 AM

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Smocking is a form of embroidery that is done over tiny pleats. You can google for pictures or go to www.marthapullen.com for more information. In the south, it is quite popular, not so much here in the mid west. So when I get home to visit, I stock up!

I'll post pics when I get pics made. :) I have been taking pics of the grandson and not so much of the quilts and such.

Welcome to the board from Memphis TN!!!

I've spent many hours driving through Missour to get to Kansas. It is a pretty state.

My hubby is from Talladega AL. Any chance you were close by?

Lynne 08-14-2008 05:14 AM

I am from a small town close to Gulf Shores. I have childhood friends that go to Talladega for the races every year.

Loretta - thank you so much for the compliment. I think she is pretty too. The handsome guy in the picture is my grandson.

Lynn, welcome from Western Pa. I also love to smock.
It is not very popular here as in the south, but, I used to belong to a smocking guild . I am a big fan of Martha Pullman. Lucky you to be so creative. Donna

Lynne, I was born in Mobile and went to Gulf Shores starting at 6 months old and continued (even though we moved to PA) until after in was in college. We have since moved our beach vacations to St. George Island FL because of the whole tourism/condo thing at GS. We still enjoy Fort Morgan! I still remember GS back before Hurricane Fredrick and watched it slowly become way too crowded for our family!! My grandmother lived in Foley for years and my father was born in Robertsdale so I still have plenty of family in Mobile with a sister and BIL about to move to Stapleton in rural Baldwin County.

Welcome to the quilting board!

Welcome to the board--please post some pics of your quilting and smocking. Your grandson is adorable and I thought the person in the picture with him was your daughter.

Lynn,
welcome from Southern California. I used to love to dress my girls in smocked dresses (when they were little) I never learned how to do the smocking but had several friends who did their own smocking when I lived in the SF Bay Area. Cute grandson!!!

sondray 08-21-2008 04:57 PM

Welcome from VA. You look too young to be a grandma! Glad you've joined us.

Lynne 08-21-2008 05:18 PM

Hey all ya'll! Sorry I havn't been around the boards lately. I had to take an unexpected trip to Alabama. It started out a bit bumpy, but ended very well.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I hope to be more of an active member rather than a professional lurker. hehe
