I've been reading for a while and now i need advice. How do I avoid cutting off the points when making a star pattern?

Welcome from Michigan. Not sure, I can help with your problem, but I'm sure somebody here can. :)

Just make sure your pieces are the right size, not too big and sew accurate seams. I usually make mine a little bigger and then trim them to the right size. A lot of the blocks you get online require a scant .25" seam, and the blocks don't work if your seam is not scant. :D :D And welcome from Texas.

cutting them off or sewing them off?
make sure your finished blocks are the correct size, check your seam allowance, ( that's always my problem).
BTW Welcome from Colorado!

Hello, and welcome from Idaho!
Accurate seams are important, and I also press the seams open on star blocks. Good Luck!
