Brand new to the game

Greetings! I'm brand new to this group, and brand new to quilting! I FINISHED my first quilt a few months ago, a lap-sized Slave Quilt. I have an amazing teacher, and she lets me come over on weekends and she walks me through everything step-by-step! I almost finished a 10-minute block quilt (I still have hand-stitch the binding to the other side of it), and yesterday I finished the top of my big animal print quilt. I really need to finish binding the other one, and this one before I start any more, but already I have some patterns lined up to do.

Why? I live in Florida, and we really don't have much need for quilts....I just love them! I'm too new to even think about giving one away! They're my babies!

Welcome from Minnesota and happy quilting :)
When I lived in south Florida, I used my quilts and afghans all of the time... the a/c chilled me, but I had to run it.

Legend has it that quilts were made with different patterns that told slaves heading North on the Underground Railroad information on the safe houses along the way. One might be a quilt of Flying Geese, and the way it was hung on the line or porch was directional. Google it; you'll find the stories fascinating! I did a sampler. It was my first quilt. I hand-tied it. This is just the top before I quilted it. I think you can see Monkey Wrench (tools here), sailboat (water crossing) Jacobs Ladder, Drunkard's Path, Dresden Plate, etc.
