This is really not a new topic, but did anyone come up on the answer on top thread keep braking? i am a senior and
i really am going crazy, I took my machine in to have cleaned and adjusted (Brothers Dealer) Top thread keeps braking. I have tryed ALL different threads same problem. different stablizers. different bobbins, needles. Took it back and they said there is nothing wrong with your machine.(I know different) new bobbin case. Everything I can think off.
I have sewed for years. Please someone help before its to late and the machine hits the curb.
Thanks Mary Lou

Welcome from central FL. I have a Janome but I have to be careful with the top thread. Sometimes the thread winds around the spool holder and it breaks; other times the thread will jump out of the take up arm. Everytime my thread breaks, I completely rethread the machine and that usually helps.

is your throat plate smooth, if it has a tiny nick in it it will break the thread, also adjust your tension it maybe too tight, rigthy tighty, lefty loosly

This picture of my Janome shows the needle. The correct way to thread this machine is to bring the thread down to the left side of the needle and under the hook. I was putting the thread on the hook on the right side of the needle. Having the same problems as you described. After threading correctly, had no more trouble. Such a small thing, but what a difference. Hope this might work for you.

Welcome from Houston TX! I know how frustrating a problem like that can be. I have a Baby Lock machine now and just love it.

i started using the metallic needles and also the thread net. it helps me alot, keeps the thread from winding around the spool thing. slowing the speed down helps some also

Welcome!

There should be a thread net in with your attachments. Slip it over the spool. It isn't used to prevent the thread from unwinding off the spool, it is used to add a slight bit more tension to the thread. I had terrible thread breaking problems with my Brother machine until I had the 'A HA!' moment. No more thread breaks. You may also want to buy a thread stand. You can get a single spool stand at JoAnne's or Hancock fabrics for less than 10.00. What a thread stand does is give the thread a bit more space to unwind and relax before going through the machine. Hope this helps.
