Hello my name is Sandy and this is my first time here. I have been keeping scrap material for some time now and I think I want to start a quilt for a queen size bed, my question is, Is this going to be to big of a project for me on my first try at quilt making? and Do I sew all the patches together first?

Welcome! It's big but doable. You pick a pattern and sew it first, then sandwich batting between the front and back and quilt it! Does that help any?

Hello and welcome from Tennessee. My suggestion is to pick out a pattern first.

Welcome from Georgia. You may want to start with a couple little things or you could just dive in. Ask for help along the way, there is plenty of help here. Just post questions or drop by the chat room.
