I've seen lots of Eddie's great quilts, and seen posts and quilts by Billy and Henry. I just answered a post by John asking about quilting families, so it has me curious about how many of us there are. Then when we all answer, the thread will be in our watched topics folder and we can refer back to it.

How many of us are active (or not so active) on this board?

We have a new one showing up, if he will introduce himself. He's just lurking at the moment. When I talk to him again, I'll encourage him to introduce himself.
Today, I showed him how to thread a machine, wind a bobbin and make a 9 patch. He did a wonderful job and is anxious to start the quilt he wants to make from old Levis. He's a carpenter by trade so I'm leaving the math up to him. He's already thinking about designing. LMBO, my son lost a target shooting and model airplane flying buddy to my quilting hobby. Hard to believe, huh?

what does that mean? surely you're not asking the ladies to restrain their natural impulse to make you welcome? :shock:

like you, i hope our male members will post a welcome to give you a better idea of how NOT "alone" you are here. one of our most longstanding members is a man.

but, please ... let the women say "hi", too.

our gender doesn't make us "the driving force". the driving force here is camaraderie. ;-)

I have learned how to quilt from my grandmother who will be 90 this July. I felt that it was a shame to let the generations of quilters in my family end with her when she passes. So I asked her to teach me how to quilt and she very patiently taught me how to quilt. Many years before she had taught my grandfather and it was one of the things that they did together during the short time that she had him after he retired and before he passed away from cancer. I still have my quilt that he made me circa 1986. He passed in 1988. I got my grandmother to show me how to quilt in 2007.

I enjoy making quilts, wall hangings, table runners etc for my family and friends. I give away most of the quilts I make. It is just more fun that way.

Hi and welcome from freezing Central Wisconsin! I am SOOOOO glad to see more guys showing up. Any time I have mentioned it to my dh he has given me this "you've got to be kidding" look. But in all honesty, he has a better eye for color and far more precise than I am :oops: Your comments give us a totally different outlook and that is good :thumbup:
